First AR-15 SPR Build: Barrel Suggestions?

Hey everyone,

I’m working on my first AR-15 SPR build and need some advice on which barrel to choose. I’ve narrowed it down to a few options, but I’m having a tough time deciding. Here are the contenders:

  1. Rainier Arms Ultramatch MOD2 .223 Wylde MK12 SPR AR-15 Barrel - 18" Nitride - 420$
  2. BALLISTIC ADVANTAGE AR-15 MODERN SERIES 18" Rifle-Length Barrel SPR w/ OPS 12 - 320$
  3. WHITE OAK ARMAMENT 18" Rifle SPR Barrel - 630$
  4. CRITERION BARRELS INC 18" HBAR Contour, Rifle Gas System, .223 Wylde - 570$
  5. CRITERION BARRELS INC SBN Barrel .223 Wylde 18" Rifle-Length - 570$
I’m located in Switzerland, which explains why the prices might seem a bit high compared to what you’re used to in the States.

I’m looking for something that will give me most accuracy at distance. (think 500+ yards)

Any insights on these options? Does anyone have experience with one of these barrels, and how do they perform in terms of accuracy, durability, and overall quality? Or should I consider a different barrel altogether?

Appreciate any help or advice you all can provide!

Thanks!

There have been some very nice barrels discussed on this thread. I'm only going to mention this due to cost and apparently the OP can get Ballistic Advantage products.

I recently got the urge to put together an SPR setup. I didn't have a real need for it, but wanted a range toy that shoots straighter than most barrels. I just grabbed one of the Ballistic Advantage stainless, fluted SPR barrels. BA is often running a sale and I got one for under $200 U.S.

I've never shot it from a rest. Just front and rear bags, but it shoots very well. I'm not saying it's a barrel of bench rest precision, but I was able to hit 2 MOA targets out to 500 yards with it. I was admittedly using an anti cant device, but making hits wasn't hard at all.

I have a 20" DMR barrel from BA in a Grendel build that shoots at least moa with Hornady Black 123gr if I'm holding up my end (really want to try the Nosler stuff but $3/rd is a little hard to justify). Are there better barrels? Yes. Does BA get the job done? Also yes.

Unpopular opinion I know but if a barely average shooter can get fairly decent results it can't be THAT bad.

#3. By a long shot.

#2 is not even a serious option.

#4 and 5 are better suited to budget quality blasters.

#1 is hit or miss these days
