The email issued mentioned earlier this week is now fixed! You may also have received previous emails that were meant to be sent over the last few days - apologies, this was a one time issue and shouldn't happen again!
Recently mounted a scope on my Franklin 17-X in 17wsm. Unfortunately, the fixed front iron sight is blocking my sight picture/ reticle. Just wondering how best to go about removing the front sight?
Relevant 'cause the front sight is what's holding that handguard retainer thing in place. You'll have to grind off A-frame part of the front sight and re-install it to hold everything together, or get a low-profile gas block to put on there (or re-do everything and get a free-float handguard, and keep in mind that there'll be two grooves cut in the bottom of the barrel that the pins went through).
Should end up with this(ish) if you grind the A-frame off:
You can grind the front sight down while it's attached to the barrel (which I think is how the one in the pic was done). How that turns out depends on your level of hamfistedness. I'm sure there's a youtube instructional out there.
Will suck to get a cheek weld doing prone or other postitional. Off-hand should be good.
Still may see a blurry front sight at the bottom of your sight picture at low magnification.
