Rifle Scopes Are ADM QD, verical split ring mounts that bad?

This seems like a contentious question but it hasn't come up in a while so Inwas hoping to get current opinions.

My local shop that has everything I am getting for a new build has a selection of ADM mounts. I am looking for a 20 MOA base and had my eye on the Recon S type. They also have a lot of the Recon cantilever models.

I see a lot of hate for both QD mounts and vertically split rings but these rings are independent of the base so are they an exception? The only other 20 MOA bases they have are one model Vortex and a few Sphurs. I have had a Spuhr before but it's double the price and I just don't know how much better it is.

Some people have success, I would skip the vertical split myself though.
What is it you are putting together that requires a mount vs normal rings and a canted base?
If you have to get a mount with cant built in I would look at the arc mbrace. Its 300 vs 250 for the adm.

I have one ADM w/ vertical split rings and one LaRue with vertically split rings and haven't had issues with either. I also have a number of others that aren't vertically split, Badger, ARC, Scalarworks, Primary Arms PLx, etc...really find no functional difference other than the mounting process. I really like the QD feature and I do swap scopes back and forth.

The receiver has a flat base already (it's a Tikka CTR) as does my other CTR so instead of replacing two bases I figured I could have a mount that could be switched between rifles if need be.

That said the store also has Tikka 20 MOA bases so maybe I will just buy one of those. Maybe two for both rifles. That and Vortex precision rings are actually cheaper than an ADM.

I was just wondering is ADM had become anyones favorite precision rifle mounting system recently for any reason.

Thanks for the feedback. I had seen the posts where Frank, among other people, claimed they could cause issues with elevation erectors. I guess they could but horizontal rings don't seem to cause issues with windage controls and no one takes issue with Spuhr's 45° clamping system.

That’s what I would do myself but I’m pretty sure the rails are glued on so you’ll need to set an iron on it to soften the glue compound.
A bit more work that just getting a 20moa mount but I would prefer it personally.

Vertically split rings can pinch the tube but I don't think the ADM design allows that unless over torqued.

I've had good luck with their mounts so far

Try a pair of these and you won't need a new canted base. These rings will do all the work. in 30 and 34mm sizes:

Burris XTR Signature Rings

Each ring set includes one set of the +/- 0 MOA concentric, one set each of the +/-5 MOA and +/-10 MOA, and two sets of the +/-20 MOA. With these inserts, it is possible to make 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 40 MOA of cant in the scope mount.

I was grabbing a bunch of stuff at the store and got the Vortex rail instead of the MDT by mistake. Over double the price! It was already an expensive visit but that caught me off guard when I checked the receipt at home.

The issue is not really whether the rings are split vertically or horizontally or diagonally.
It just so happens that most vertically split rings, ADM included, rely on the ring halves deforming as you tighten them around the scope tube. That guarantees that they end up out of round and squeezing the scope tube in some sort of an asymmetric and inconsistent way. Sometimes, it makes not difference. Sometimes, it screws things up. It is better to not draw fire on your own position and play the odds.

Well now I need lower rings. In my mind it wasn't going ti be that bad with the 1.5" extra highs I already had.

Adm are some of the shittiest mounts made. Haven't been relevant for like 20 years. Much better options out there and the truth is. Almost no one needs QD. Even guys who swap optics and gear around all the time depending on need, use a solid mount and torque wrench.

It's fan boy low IQ still lives in mom's basement shit.

Okay point heard and understood. I bought a 20 MOA to go with my new setup and am going to get some new rings that aren't as crazy high.

Check out the mpa mount. With one of the 20% discount codes they are one of the best deals out there. Spuhr, greyops and Badger are tier 1 but if you don't need to attach anything ( if it's a precision gun you should run a send it level fyi) you don't need those ecosystems.

I have numerous ADM mounts with the vertical split rings (probably 6 or more) amd have never had an ounce of trouble out of them. They hold the scope well, rarely leave visible marks on the scope and are relatively easy to setup. I wouldn't hesitate to use them at all and they have kind of become my go-to.

FWIW the newer MPA BA mounts have the same hole spacing and will accept Spuhr add-ons for attaching fun gadgets.

Ignorance is not competence. In independent testing ADM has some of the worst RTZ of any mounts tested. The ring design is an issue as well. Larue and ADM are obsolete. There was a time when they were the best option but that time has long since passed.

If you decide to replace the pic rail, I would highly recommend Murhpy Precision pic rail as a replacement.
It comes with pins to put on the locator holes and the recoil lug is very snug. In short, it is a tight lockup to the receiver.

Be aware, that Tikka uses some sort of epoxy to secure the pic rail to the receiver. Its a bitch to remove.
I ended up having one of my local smiths do it for me.

I went with Seekins rings for this setup.

I was going to get MDT but accidentally got the Vortex already. My buddy bought a CTR at the same time and his rail was really stuck on but I was able to just pull mine off. Maybe I'm stronger than him. I have extra high (too high) Vortex rings from another rifle I'm using.

I just wanted the mount for the 20 MOA which I have now with the base so any good 1.25" rings will do I think.

Trying to keep the weight from getting any higher for NRL hunter. The Razor Is already heavy enough.

I have several ADM mounts (not all are vertically split, BTW) and never had an issue. The ring halves have to be torqued in a specific way, and I bet many people don't bother to do it right or don't care. Then they wonder why they have issues.
