Crazy. I suppose the idea was to just give one the same familiar AR trigger and stock during muzzleloading season. Plus, your hunting partner can get a good laugh.

Not that surprising or a big deal. There are 50 cal Ar uppers. There are uppers that shoot golf balls and soda cans. There are uppers that shoot arrows. There are bolt action uppers.
Defiance makes a custom action specifically for muzzleloaders. Lots of guys are running smokeless muzzleloaders.
A good one than can run something like blackhorn 209 and setup like a bolt guns is $1.2-2k for the gun alone. Guys spend $5k on a custom smokeless.
Pretty cool idea if you ask me. Gives another option.

Does the firing mechanism have to be open to elements like some western states? That's the dumbest rule of them all.

ML competes with archery here in CO.
So making it pretty challenging to still be able to shoot an elk at 150 yds with a 300 gr bullet is good.
That makes a lot of meadows, water spots, and wallows a place to hunt that archery is not possible based on distance.
I archery hunt, so appreciate they dont get a massive leg up.
Thats why I want just the upper
If I had an 80% lower, pair that and really make em lose their minds.

I mean I’m not gonna lie I am a fan of smokeless muzzleloaders, our season here in PA is a week long and doesn’t have any restrictions other than load from the muzzle. Rather than spend $1,000 on a muzzleloader I have to fight with to keep zeroed and free of rust just to give me mediocre accuracy it’s way easier to throw a barrel on my precision rifle, rezero in 3 shots then get to hunting with 275gr High BC bullets at 2340 fps easily capable of killing game out to 400 yards.

They need to also offer the upper by itself since most people buying that most likely already owns ARs and can simply install it on the lower of their choosing and one that they are familiar with.

I used to have a .50 cal muzzloading barrel for my shotgun. Been lost for 20+ years. Not sure if they're still around, but I remember there used to be these inserts you put in your shotgun barrel in the chamber and it was essentially a breech plug and allowed you to shoot your shotgun as a muzzle loading shotgun. What can I say, I'm a sucker for anything black powder.

For that price, they should make it part of the "Weekend Mountain Man Starter Pack". The lower, the muzzleloading upper, a standard grunt A2 or A4 5.56 upper, and a Sig Sauer Romeo 5 sight.
For $1792, they can put together a Weekend Mountain Man PRO PACK. All of the above plus a Spire all-weather techwear jacket in rainforest olive or blue-gray and pants and Dr. Scholls "Harrington" heavy duty work/hiking shoes. One can survive anywhere with these.
Beware. A buddy has one of the bolt guns. Took a look and the holes aren’t totally straight and not sure if the machining as the upper did not swing freely. We both feel like the 6 arc upper was OK, but the lower was worth about $70 max.
I wasn't around at the time but wasn't muzzleloader season supposed to be challenging? Kind of like bow season? It seems like there's barely a reason to have seperate seasons anymore.
For those wanting just the upper…. it is availabe as just an upper.
Muzzle loaders aren't considered firearms, so, does that mean the barrel can be a short as someone wants it to be and suppressed without the paperwork and taxes? Just think of the potentials here. Chop that barrel down and thread it for a suppressor, mod a few magazines by taking out the springs and followers and turn the floorplates into trap doors and use them for bullet storage, or even better, divide the mags into two chambers with one side for ammo, the other for percussion caps. Powder and wad storage can be mounted to the rail behind the PEQ-15 or Surefire. Give it either a law folder with the latest magpul stock or a gucci collapsing PDW stock. Install a bayonet lug on the barrel or suppressor and you'll have the most coolest SBM (short barrel musket) on the block!

I thought- "I've wondered before if I could make a muzzleloader semi-auto, but I've never thought 'I wonder if I could take my ak or ar and make it into a single shot muzzleloader. " who does that?
The more I looked at it, I thought how badly it'd mess with people- which made me want one.
It boggles my mind how someone mocked this up as a practical item and I'm not sure I can get past that... Yet, you could store all your extra caps and balls in a mag designed to carry everything needed available at the push of a button and would just push the buttons of folks who saw it.
In my utter bewilderment of being equally appalled and allured I've shared my find for the day.
Leaving you all to reflect on our place in time and space, and what we thought was a world we'd figured out.

It is pretty innovative and it would make an AWESOME gift for a dedicated AR shooter who has uppers for every occasion.
In the late 1850s, there had been attempts to make muzzleloading single shot pistols and rifles repeat firing and not using the then-established revolver layout. It involved rectangular blocks of steel each with 6-10 chambers bored into it that had their own percussion ignition nipples. The 'magazines' are then fed through a slot in the receiver of the hammerlock pistol or rifle and after firing every shot, the shooter turned a crank or pushed a lever to advance the block one chamber down until the block has been fired. The Volcanic Repeating Arms Co. had a commercially produced 'side loading' .32 caliber pistol but it was not a great seller and the revolver became the dominant repeating sidearm until lever action cartridge arms appeared. The Volcanic side-fed magazine design did inspire the Hotchkiss machine gun and the WWI-WWII Imperial Japanese Army Type-92 heavy machine gun later on...
It was designed to sell more tags with a lower harvest rate same as archery. Essentially every step down from rifle allows you to sell more tags to achieve the same harvest. More seasons with lower harvest ratios mean more tags and more revenue.
