Gunsmithing McMillan Fiberglass Stock Repair Work Recommendations

Any recommendations for a shop that can professionally and reliably (as in not take my stock, money and not have no updates or response to status queries for months on end) fix the target butt system that has fallen out of my McMillan fiberglass stock, as well as do some minor patch work on the gel coat (seal the exposed end of the cheek piece, patch up some areas of the stock where the fiberglass cloth is starting to show)?

Since McMillan has become more a “production company” since they changed ownership, they are no longer doing such post-production repair work on discontinued or low volume stocks/molds.

that sucks. just a few years ago McMillan rebuilt and worked on a 3 way adjustment system they hadn't made in a decade. great coms, cheap, great work done.

really sad they won't even work on their own stuff anymore.

Perhaps it's a gunsmith who took his stock and money then never communicated status for months as mentioned in OP?

Yeah, I think I misread the OP, it's not McMillan's work-they are looking for a good shop to not repeat what happened last time. Unfortunately the "new" McMillan doesn't do much beyond their stocks and whatever "custom" orders. But even "custom" orders are limited. I want the 3-way buttplate (even 2-way would be acceptable) but not available even though on the accessories page. I get it, new owners are trying to streamline the operation.

Hey all. Thanks for the couple of stocksmith recommendations so far.

Not trying to start a flame war on any company or shop here. I got this Baker Special stock with the broken off target butt system second hand, so don’t know who did the original install work. Just know that I need it professionally attached back on. That and the gel coat patch work requires a knowledgeable and reliable hand working with fiberglass stocks. So just looking for someone that can professionally do that paid work, plus general stocksmith tasks such as removing bedding from the barrel channel, installing a new pad on the butt system, and installing a 10” Anschutz UIT rail (if I can find one, since these are apparently limited production items too now).

McMillan will no longer put any of these older, discontinued, or low volume stocks on their machines. It’s probably too much time and usage of a limited CNC machine for one-offs such as this for them. It is what it is. Hoping the community and market can fill in this service void.

Think its a pretty easy fix order some pro bed 2000 from Score-high. Get your self back to a flat surface in the mounting area with epoxy. Buy some thread inserts and machine screws that fit the adjustable butt pad. Then drill new holes for the inserts and glue them in. The pro bed will come with release agent so with some masking tape you shouldn't need much more than normal hand tools, drill bits and a drill gun. Mc master will have everything you need.

That’s putting it lightly.

The *****y condescending attitude they have when dealing with “small fry customers” is probably their worst trait.
