7-300 prc?

Just had mine finished, and have everything together to start loading over the fall (will not shoot it until after deer season here).

Barrel life is not going to be your friend. I'm expecting 600 - 1000 rounds, depending on how you load and shoot it. Most guys neck down in one step for ease.

The thought of launching 180s at 3,100+, and 190s at 3,000+ without having to stand on it is what sold me. I've done load development for a 300NM before, and I loved the wind calls with 215 and 230gr Bergers. I'm hoping to get similar performance with a bit less recoil.

I get 3125 with 184gn bergers. 26' barrel
With a stock chamber 7prc. You should be getting 3200+ with 195's on a 7-300prc.
I know primal rights runs a 7-300N. It's a little different but he maybe helpful for the 7-300prc wildcat.
I thought the 7-300 almost died when the 7PRC came out.

Good luck to you, should be a screamer.

I will say I shoot with 300prc shooters and the 7 has less dialing and is much better in the wind.

I have one. 3180 w/ 190a-tips. Using Retumbo. 28” barrel. Could get more speed out of another powder, but barrel life would suffer. Probably back this load off 1/2 gr. to be honest.
Using Lapua brass and Redding sizing die. Neck down in 2 steps.323 then .314. Km 7mm expander die.
Just getting going with mine close to 100 rds down the tube but if you have any questions let me know.

Newb here 👋 I read where you wanted to turn a 300PRC to a 7mm PRC long. I do allot of research on calibers particular my new favorite as of 4 years ago. The 300 PRC. One of the those was the development of the PRC. Inevitably someone like here necks something down. The question for them as a manufacturer is does it fall within SAAMI specs And whenever they usually neck something down it usually always develops to much pressure. While it seems like a good idea because it has worked in previous experiments. Hornady said that development of a new cartridge usually fails to meet criteria due to unable to achieve whether it be ballistics, or unable to deliver certain characteristics with particular bullets. High pressure was usually the killer of it all them experiments as the powder selection and velocities are either limited by not enough and the other side of the spectrum is it exceeds recommended pressure. So following this journey will be exciting

I'm initially pretty excited about the cartridge.

Hornady is running a lot of their stuff now at 65K PSI SAAMI...which is higher pressure than the cartridges that they are trying to replace.

As far as whether the 7-300PRC falls withing SAAMI specs, all I can say to that is my Manson reamer headspaces off of 300 PRC gauges.

It is a fun project for me to try out. Whether or not I stick with it after two barrels is another story :D . I also like that quite a few powders and bullets seem to work (so far) in this cartridge.

Once you make changes to a case it's no longer saami spec. (neck up, neck down, shoulder angle, length etc)

This has nothing to do with pressure, you can still run them within the spec'd pressure levels but there's no real way to know what your pressures are with out spending a ton of money on a test barrel and sending it to a testing facility.

I realize that I am just relating on what they have noticed in R&D side of things. Hornady does this for a living. So information they provide I listen very intently. As a customer a shooter, and reloader.
