October 11 was the opening day for rifle hunting in SC. Sunrise was 727. At 704, I shot an 8 pt at 210 yds. I saw the deer in a wheat food plot on a fire break. Had to use the illuminated reticle on my Nightforce 2.5-20 to be able to see the reticle adequately for the shot. The deer ran about 15 yards. I used a Hornady factory 143 ELDX. I didn’t hit the shoulder bone but the exit wound is shown in the attached picture. I like to hit high in the shoulder but was just back a couple inches. I just acquired the rifle in December 2023. This is the 2nd deer killed (and shot at) with my SP10. Can’t be more pleased with the setup for whitetails. The entrance hole is circled in red. He weighed 148 lbs. Not a big rack but nice start on season. The rifle picture is different day last year but same stand.
