Anyone build a 6.8spc bolt gun? Only reason I’m considering it is to consolidate down to a few calibers to minimize reloading components and stuff I have to have and already run an AR in 6.8.

I know I would need a new bolt head for my Origin.

What would I use for mags? MDT 6 ARC mags?

Anyone know of a place I could get a prefit? Or would it be a custom job?

Possible feeding or ejection issues?

Plan would be origin, 14.5-16” barrel with my Kgm r30k, xlr element, and a 1-6/2-10 type optic

Eric(hdfireman)has a few threads on 68fourms using savage as the host. Not sure what mags they are running.

I’ve thought about a tikka 6.8 but don’t see myself using it much vs the gas gun.

I like my gas gun but wanting a bolt for my kids and for stand hunting. AR with the can I still want ear pro with the ejection port right next to my ear

Yeah it was back when all he did were Rock Creek blanks. I think they still do Valkyrie chamberings if you call but not sure if they've ever offered 6.8.

On a whim I went to a flea market a couple towns away mostly looking for tools one Saturday morning and came across a "1st production run" Remington 700 in 6.8 SPC for what seemed to be a fair price.
It's not the tack driver I hoped it would be but it consistently puts 5 rounds of most anything I feed it inside an inch at 100 yards.
Good enough for killing deers and yotes and the odd feral gato domiciliario.

I have a factory Ruger Hawkeye 6.8spc. It shoots ok killed a calf cow elk a couple years ago with it shooting 110gr Barnes. I have two Wilson Combat ars barrel that shoot really well. I have considered SBRing an action and making a 12.5 bolt gun to shoot suppressed.

For inside 200-250 yards 6.8 is probably my favorite cartridge.

As mentioned above, Eric at Blackstone Arms organized a barrel group buy at 68 Forums earlier this year. 18”, 5/8-24 threads, savage small shank. Received mine last month but haven’t finished the project yet. I got a lefty Savage Axis chambered in .400 Legend (.422 bolt face) for donor action but sorta having ragrets for not just going with an Origin.

IIRC barrels sold out but there may be an extra floating around over on that forum as some folks purchased more than one - just one possible option amongst several. There’s a thread over there with info what mags are compatible etc.

I have a 6.5 Grendel barrel for my TL3 and a 338 Spectre on an Origin. SPC bolt face and Dasher mag kits in an AICS mag for the Grendel and PPC bolt face/ MDT 6 ARC mags for the Spectre

Are you able to get a hold of the 6.8mm Speer Gold Dots? Those seem like the perfect short barreled SPC bullet.

They’re great projectiles.

Second best is 85 TSX or 95 TTSX.

Haven’t tried the Accubonds. Typically staying under 100gr offers best performance envelope, especially in shorter barrels.

Do you happen to know what the min velocity is for the 85 TSX? Sometimes Barnes has some oddball designs. Like their .224 barrier blind bullet.

All the parts arrived for the build and tossed them together for photos. Still need to headspace the barrel and play musical triggers to free one up for this rifle

Origin, ARP 18” barrel, XLR Element, KGM R30k, Vortex 2-10 razor LH and will have a folder and TT special 2 stage.

Probably won’t have time to shoot it for a few weeks but will try to report back when I do.

So I’m using the mdt poly Valkyrie magazine and just cycling the ammo through the gun once the mag is roughly 1/2 empty the bullets tilt nose down and stop feeding.tube not enough spring tension? Or second thought is the ribs on the inside of mag are dragging on the front of the case???

Is the Valkyrie shorter or thinner in the front than the 6.8? I have never seen a valkyrie case up close.
