Hi all

I was in the middle of shooting the MPA match over the weekend when I noticed that my target direction was 000 and it would not capture without compass calibration. I had calibrated the compass that morning but thought it was possible that it had just lost calibration. I tried 4 times to calibrate but after consistant fails, decided to restart the Kestrel. I was then, upon restart, able to calibrate the compass. When I input my data, I noticed that my elevation looked off. When I checked my gun profile, it only read "USERGUN1" or something of the sort. From there I reconnected my phone to the Kestrel and appended my profiles. I thought I was good and took the data the Kestrel gave me. Had two complete botches of stages so I decided to go double check my zero. As I walked to the zero range, I started to go through my gun profile where I noticed my zero range at 91m instead of 100y. When the Kestrel had its freak out, it also changed my units to metric - so when putting in my data for yards, it was reading it as meters. It cost me quite a few spots at the finish. Is there any reason why this may have happened and any way that I can keep it from happening in the future? I already turn off bluetooth after the morning to avoid someone connecting and uploading their gun profile to my Kestrel.

Thanks in advance

I have noticed that when you reset a Kestrel 5700 it will default to meters for distance. I recall other defaults that I need to change too. It would be a good experiment to reset at home and make a checklist of all the items that need to be reconfigured after a total reset to get your same firing solutions as before the reset. I'm thinking it would be good to have a default DOF, WS1, Temperature, Humidity, Altitude, Lattitude, etc. in a checklist too. I might try that myself one of these days. Of course, a future firmware update could come along and require adjusting the checklist. But it would be good to start from the same place after a reset.

As for why the Kestrel needed to be reset during a match, I can't help there. I just know they are computers and electronics and are run on batteries. There are lots of opportunity for something to go wrong. I have 2 just in case one goes down.
