A2 sight removal for ocular lens clearance

I think I saw a pic rail out there that mounts to the carry handle, but at best, it's gonna require a scope with long eye relief for the model that goes in front of the handle and is gonna be HIGH. There is one that puts the optic right over the handle, but that gonna be VERY high.

Above is the best advise. Grab a blem upper from BCM.

Post a pic of your upper, maybe you can swing a deal with a member to switch out the A2 upper with a flat top?
Also remember that with a fixed front sight, you will have a front sight "shadow" at or about 3x and less. You may be better served obtaining another purpose built upper for your needs and keeping the fixed sight version as is.
If needing a lower power optic, look at an ACOG or Primary Arms prism that attaches to the carry handle channel, that way you can use what you currently have?

example-4x shown, they have others depending on power, reticle type and caliber

I'd rather keep the A2 together because it's sentimental or whatever. It's my dad's CMP match rifle. I just want to modernize it enough to shoot 2 gun matches and I need some magnification. I found this mount and they have good reviews here so it might be the way to go. I have a 1-6 that was also his so it seems appropriate.

Iffin' it was me, I'd keep it kinda retro-mod and throw one of those Brownell's 4X Colt optics on the carry handle.

I can't seem to find a photo of that company's carry handle mount but it is likely to be along the lines of Trigger Monkey's photo. You will also need to get a cheek riser. If going old school the Colt Delta HBAR (or clones) is right:

My vote however is go get or make a whole new flat top upper, leave the original purely original. Pin whichever applies best to the lower.
