Lapua offers SRP or LRP for the 308 brass.I go to load these and…it turns out these are SR primer .308WIN
No personal experience, but I was told (by Berger tech) they are designed for the Palma folks. Potentially better ES/SD as long as you aren’t shooting in cold weather - then you might experience hang fires.Yeah, I get that. I've been using LRP version for ages and was just topping up since the old stuff is nearing the end of life. I even double-checked the order, but nope - SRP version arrived instead. All good - something new to test.
I prefer the SRP for 243 Ackley.I go to load these and…it turns out these are SR primer .308WIN
Agree, I have plenty of mtm 100rd boxesThat 50 round ammo box ia a PITA. It is much larger than it needs to be. And what must I do with the other 50 cases?
Not necessarily for lower SD's, but since we push those 155's pretty hard to stay supersonic at 1K, the LR pockets get loose quicker than the SR brass.but I was told (by Berger tech) they are designed for the Palma folks. Potentially better ES/SD
Same.Agreed but I also don't care about dinged necks. It happens. Run an expander through them. I will be doing it still anyway.
Berger Man may have been full of it, but he said the theory was that the smaller diameter flash hole of SRP brass vs LRP brass created more of a jet effect and deeper penetration of the flash into the powder column to ignite it more consistently front-and-back. That raised more questions than it answered for me, but I was like, "Okaaay..."Not necessarily for lower SD's, but since we push those 155's pretty hard to stay supersonic at 1K, the LR pockets get loose quicker than the SR brass.
That's true, and as a result I don't really use them to transport loaded ammo to the range. I use MTMs for that. But they can be useful for sorting/storing cases as they go through the different case prep operations. I use a mix of MTMs and the "free" Lapua boxes for that, and throw a small card in each box that says where they are in the process. The loaded rounds all end up in MTMs, though. That 50 round ammo box ia a PITA. It is much larger than it needs to be. And what must I do with the other 50 cases?
I was speaking specifically about the version Berger uses in their factory ammo. It was SRP, now LRP. I want to say that when Berger first started producing 6.5CM, the only version Lapua made at that time was SRP, but I'm not sure.As for 6.5 Creedmoor brass they sell both SRP and LRP versions to this day.
