PRS Talk What tripod are PRS and NRL shooters using

Can’t speak of NRL but in PRS I’ve yet to see a stage where you shoot off the actual tripod. Do some use it as rear support on some stages yes but to be clamped in on ball head, No. primary use of comps are for glassing with binos, which any good tripod will allow you to do. I see more Leofoto’s than anything. Others are RRS, 2 Vets, and FatBoy.

I see a lot of RRS tripods with Anvil heads. With NRL Hunter you see more 2 section tripods due to speed of deployment. I'm trying a two section Leofoto myself this year, in addition to my RRS three section.

I use a TA-3 leveling base rather than a ballhead, but those seem less common these days.

Lots of Leofoto, RRS, Two Vets, Neewer, Sirui, Innorel. Choose USA or China and prices assocaited with each.

I had some nice CF tripods from my camera shooting days, so I still use Gitzo and Manfrotto.

RRS 22i with Anvil head would be the top option I assume. The inverted two-section tripods are fast to deploy and sturdy. I *believe* the Leofoto equivalent to the 22i would be their SO-362C but I have no experience with Leofoto. They mainly copycat RRS with a metric ton of patent infringement and seem to dodge lawsuits by virtue of being a Chinese company. That's my impression of it anyway.

I see almost no RRS tripods at matches (PRS), lots of 2Vets in my area. Next most common brand would probably be Leofoto. For heads, the most common seems to be the RRS Avil particularly if the user shoots off it.

I use a 2Vets QDT-LS with a RRS Anvil and have been extremely happy with it over the last two years and it is great for use as a rear support option.

Locking apex is a game changer for rear tripod stages, and just for walking between stages on open ranges - just lift it up and walk a few feet over to the next stage without having to take all your crap out of your hammock.

I'll run a ball head (LH-55 or LH-40) for spotting as I like no handed panning. For shooting I like my Anvil-30.

I use the 2 vets qdt and most of my shooting buddies do as well. I do wish i would have got the inverted legs for even faster deploying. It is the best one i have owned so far. I had the OG "no name'' for a while and it was great all around hunting and prs set up. They are not the lightest but i have yet to break one and that speaks volumes for me as i shoot almost every weekend whether its a matches or practice. Out of the 18 matches (mostly regionals) ive shot this year i have not had to deploy on the clock nor have i needed to shoot clamped in. Try out whatever you see at your local matches. I would make sure which ever one you do get make sure fully deployed it meets your eyeline comfortably, less crouching over during the day makes it easier on the back at the end of those long days or weekends of shooting.

New addition(s) to the line up coming real soon as well

I have the fat boy elevate with their invert 60 for PRS. It’s the thickest with the heaviest rating, super stable, and lifetime warranty. I only shoot PRS so mainly glassing and tripod rear.

We have lots of options in our area (@Sheldon N's stomping grounds), and it comes down to a few considerations. Cost, weight, packed size, speed for deploy-on-the-clock, stability, and locking apex are the main ones in my mind.

I personally tried the Two Vets and Leofoto inverted 2-section options and found the Two Vets to be slightly more stable, so that's what I chose. I hear RRS is even better, but I'm not sure it's worth the cost for me at this time.

An advantage of the Leofoto is that you can get the apex screws cranked down tight enough that it won't collapse when you push it around; I haven't been able to get the TV that stiff.

As for the head, the Anvil 30 is still the gold standard for shooting clipped in. If you're running a tac table instead, you might just consider one with a bowl apex and just plop a bag on top of the naked apex. I've shot several stages clipped in this year, and I like having the option; it's also great for hunting or NRLH.

I use a Leofoto. I have multiple heads depending on what I am using it for. I very seldom actually shoot off of a tripod like other folks said. Mainly use it for rear support when needed. Most of the time its for spotting, binos, etc.
