Been a while since I shot factory ammo. Thought I’d change that. Shot some old melty boys (yeah, been a while) and noticed something….wish they still did this. It was pretty cool while it lasted.

They did that because Dennis Demille formerly of Creedmoor Sports basically told them they had to.
It was marketed to NRA Highpower shooters and Tactical Shooters and they wanted folks to buy the ammo and be able to duplicate the load. Dennis didn't want it to be a mystery what load(s) worked best in this new cartridge

I have heard second hand that Hornady wanted something as accurate as the 6XC, but they couldn't or didn't want to deal with David Tubb...so they took the 6XC case, removed the body taper and chose the 6.5 cal to use the heavy 140gr SMK's and A-Max's. But, I seem to recall the Tubb 2000 rifle being sold at Creedmoor Sports in both 6XC and 6.5 Creedmoor back in the day. Hornady's press releases said they used the 30TC case....maybe a little from column A and a little from column B.
