The Great Beyond
Struggling with my Bergara LA Mag, it is always getting jarred loose on recoil (300 WM) Is it possible I have the wrong "size" magazine? I know that LA mags comes in different lengths and the "standard" is kinda all over the place so its tough for me to figure out. (3.715, 3.85--I've seen both listed as "CIP") Can someone set me straight on these things so I can troubleshoot whether its the mag or something like the catch. As a paraiah I dont have a lot of friends to "borrow" an alternative to check out. (Joking, no one shoots LA mags in my circle--all single feed).

Example: Go to MDT (not picking on them, just easy example) Looking at Oryx: Says takes 3.715. Click on the link for the mag: 3.850. What the hell?

I’m flabbergasted by how bad bolt gun magazines are. No anti-tilt mechanisms, and the CIP length mags I’ve seen use non-CIP length followers so they don’t just tilt, but slide forward and backward freely.

Sorry, no answer to your question. Just rants at the sorry state of bolt gun magazines in 2024.

For your question, what is the length of your magazine and what is your stock/chassis model?

300 Win Mag. I notice I can rock the mag back towards the heel of the gun fairly easily--even though I think the mag is the right size ("AICS Long action"). (Aka make the bullet noise dive), but on recoil its actually "loose" as in I have to re-seat iit.

The factory configuration Bergara Premier Approach uses a hinged floor plate design. No AICS compatibility unless you switch out the bottom metal.

If you did switch out the bottom metal, use calipers measure and the mag well dimensions fore and aft, then measure your mag. 3.715 (standard) or 3.850 (CIP) are outside dimensions for the mags.

The Oryx chassis only fits 3.715 mags, if you buy 3.850 mags, they won't fit in the mag well.

Yeah its an older version (2020 ish?) I bought it used, but its Bergara Bottom metal.

Is the 3.8/3.7 an outside dimension? Because yeah--calipers and boom.

I would just buy new bottom metal at that point but yeah, cheap solution is loop section velcro (the fuzzy soft side).
Yeah with a stripped sling stud, and this problem I'm thinking a Chassis Like Bravo or Oryx as then I can fix my LOP and cheek height and all all the rails and crap I want. (Want to shoot f-class, drop in the bag rider, hunting--drop in BiPod, sling)

I may bitch about my AI aftermarket, but at least the mags work (AW and AICS!) and in multiple calibers....
