I am wondering if I were to lay 2 -2x10 side by side on the table top that would extend back far enough to make something of a T . maybe cut to 4' ? the table top is really to low for the seat .

brainstorming experiment number one . this gives a L or R hand shooter a shelf for rear sand bag. only done to one bench

brainstorming experiment number 2 . it raised 3'' . should also work better with lead sled . I don't use lead sleds ,waiting for input on that. . so far this had been my favored fix. could maybe cut the wings off . so many nails to cut through I opted to let it ride for now

If you flip the spool on its side you’d have a pretty great wonky prop for PRS. That would be my recommendation.

The DIY spirit is pretty great, but T benches do suck for shooting. I either shoot off of them mod prone or kneeling with the rifle sitting on a game changer.

Use the seat to extend the base. Then get a chair.

My home range has benches and stools built by a guy who must be a foot and a half shorter than me. IMO the benches need to be about 10 inches higher or the stools 10" lower.

Move that wood monstrosity out of the way so you can shoot standing.
Then put down a mat and shoot sitting, kneeling and prone. Simple.
Or get a 50 pound front rest for F-class if you are over 95. . .
ya ,umm ,you should realize a person could do all that in front of the benches . is laying down better than a setting down bench ?
ok sure you are free to practice what ever form of stance you want . now tell anyone that comes to shoot that it must be done your way .that's as bad as one guy saying he doesn't like T shape benches so every one must set at the bench way he likes it .

The earth is more stable than any wooden bench. Shooting prone allows you to get your whole body mass behind the rifle. Yea, shooting from the ground has several advantages over shooting from even a well made bench.

But, a T bench is not a well made bench. The arrangement encourages a bladed shooting position that is not conducive to proper recoil management. Even shooting “modified prone,” centered up in the middle of the bench, a T bench is rarely wide enough for good elbow placement on the bench.

The bench in question may be worse than a T bench. I can envision a creative PRS stage involving such an abomination.

My solution to the “t” bench. At least a portable “t” bench. Turn that sucker around. Yep, at times I have to move th bipod back (when using a bipod) but that’s what ARCA adaptors are for.

However, it seems the world is married to that marvel of mucked up shooting, the t bench with the shooter all but besides the rifle instead of behind it.
