In previous posts I mentioned that I have four Remington 40 X rifles and that I was that having the barrels changed Due to the twist. The current twist is 14 which limits you to light weight bullets. The calibers are 222 Remington 223 Remington 243 Winchester and 7mm Remington Magnum.

The first two I asked the gunsmith to make the twist 7.

The second two since I was changing the barrels, I decided to have the caliber changed. The 222 Remington I am stuck deciding between 6.5X47 Lapua and 6.5 PCR. The 7 mm Remington I plan to have it converted to 300 PCR for these two I am thinking that a 9 twist would be adequate.

So: I have two questions the first is does anyone have an opinion t=at to my choice of twist’s. The second question relates primary to the 222 Remington conversion to a 6.5 mm; In my situation which caliber would you chose?

The 222 remington you wanna convert to a 6.5mm what? 6.5 is just the caliber of the bullet but not the cartridge.

Unless you're trying to do a 6.5mm max, your bolt on the 222 is not going to work with most 6.5mm cartridges.

You should just do a straight up 223 Wylde in 7 twist or you could opt for a 6max.

I am trying to decide which 6mm to do for instance the Lapua or the PRC I have the larger bolt

Thank You for your comments. What is a 6.5 mm max; right now i have it down to either the 6.5 lapau or the 6.5 PCR. I am looking for opinions on which I should do.
I think what he was getting at is you’ll need a different bolt face size to accommodate the 6.5 PRC (I’m assuming that’s what you mean by PCR), but it sounds like you have a larger bolt, as well.

I don’t know much about the .222 REM, but I’d assume that’s a third bolt face size into the mix with the 6.5x47 and the 6.5 PRC. I agree with @stello1001 to just go with the .223 Wylde in that gun, but it’s up to you.

PRC is what i should have written I guess I can be mix up the spelling a bit. I bought a the larger bolt from Mack Bros. in Montana and had it sent to the gunsmith. The last one was it 7mm Rem magnum so I think the bolt face should be good and it is wit the gun smith also.
So I will end up with 4 Remington 40Xs one in 223, 243, a 6.5? and the 300 PRC. all reworked to be identical
    Thank you for your comments
