Looking to purchase my first thermal in the near future and could use some advice. It will be used on a AR10 .308. I’d like to stick to under $3K if possible but my absolute max is $4K. I’m currently using a Sightmark Wraith 4K DNV optic. I don’t hunt open fields. I’m shooting down senderos where a feeder is set up around 100 yards down in South Texas. This is mainly for hog hunting. I do like having magnification since my eyesight isn’t the greatest, so being able to zoom in for shot placement is important. Don’t want anything with an internal battery. Any advice would be much appreciated. These are some that I took a quick look at.

InfiRay Bolt TL35
Rix Leap L3, L6
Rix Storm S3, S6

I would say with your budget I would get a 640 unit with a low base magnification. I have ran the Leap L3/L6 and S3 storm, I have an S6 being delivered Wednesday. If you hunt any area that you will see high humidity a 640 is well worth it, I am in eastern NC so I have hunted in some terrible conditions. I cant speak to the Bolt unit as I have not been behind that specific unit. Being you don't need a LRF i would go with the S6.If you give me a few weeks Ill have some time behind the S6.

Thanks, I'd love the feedback on the S6 when you get it. I'm interested in the zoom of the S6. I thought the optical zoom on the Leap series would benefit me compared to digital zoom. I don't shoot much with just the base magnification on my DNV optic, always use he digital zoom just to ensure a good shot placement.

I've always read good things about AGM. I'd like something that takes 18650 batteries since I have a good amount of them.
Personally, I don’t think I’d let that be the final determining factor for buying a great thermal at a great price…But you do you. 👍🏼

You can buy some awesome Nitecore 16340 950mah batteries for a good price, and if you get 6 or 8 of them, you can run for a very long time. This is what I run in mine.

Thanks, I didn't think about getting rechargeable 123 batteries.

After I burned through a pack of non-rechargeables, I started searching… I knew there had to be a better way. Those are the best ones I’ve found. 👍🏼

Also, do NOT get the 16340’s with the built in charging port…They are too tall and won’t fit. Expensive lesson I learned the hard way. Get the ones in the link I provided, they work perfectly.

Yeah, ill keep you posted. I typically keep everything on my youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@Carolina_Night_Shift

Keep in mind the AGM doesnt have a microphone or recoil activated video.. if that matters to you.

Please let me know if I can help. My prices for snipershide members is unbeatable. I have V2 rattlers in hand ready to ship as well as all are other AGM products. Also a couple open box items I can save you quite a bit of money. Dm me if I can help, love to earn your business.

Have an open box rattler V2 35-640 sitting right here in front of me on my desk I’ll sell for $3,400 shipped. That’s a steal of a deal.

Thanks Zac

Armasight and AGM are my first 2 choices. I’m running a AGM Micro Python 35 for about 4-5 years now and it’s been a great unit. I use it very hard and still work great. Killed a lot of critters with it. Batteries especially rechargeable ones are very important so I carry at least 10 batteries for long nights in the blind. I use a really good Nitecore charger to charge these batteries.

If you are interested in any 384/640 agm might want to check out Nuggets Nightvision. 2.5% cash back and tripod with ball head included with your purchase. I just picked up the varmint v2 lrf 384. Hope to sight it in Friday and use this wkend.
