I just saw on NRL website that there's a match in Alaska a few hours north of Anchorage. I was wondering if this is a new match or if this has been done before. If it's not new, does anyone have any knowledge of the temp or bugs at that time of year or any advice on where to stay nearby? I have family in Wasilla, but driving 2 hours to the range plus a 12-hour day of shooting plus another 2 hours back doesn't sound ideal.

Thanks

I just bought my ticket yesterday I think Denali might be the closest place to stay , I’ve been down in Kenai in June weather was pretty nice and I didn’t deal with any mosquitoes but Ive talked to many who have , Ak is a wild place I think the weather and bugs could go either way

The closes town is going to be trapper creek and talkeetna which are atleast an hour away. there is also cantwell I think its also an hour or a little more.
Weather could be 40*f and raining to 80*f and sunny its alaska it can be really nice to really crappy. It is the peak of summer so the weather should be pretty good
if there is no wind bugs can be a real thing
I would plan on 2.5 to 3 hour drive from anchorage
The best thing I think people should look at is renting a motor and sharing it and you would be able to stay near by in a pull off

This is what we talked about doing ourselves. I was up there and shot the LRSA final this month in 12 degree weather with the group putting this match on. I can tell you the goal really seams to have a match that is truly like the Alaskan outdoors. With not allot of porta potties and all the natural challanges one could expect rom being in the Alaskan wilderness. From EXTREME bugs that are not detoured by Off, to wild weather... or you could get the rare Alaska you see in photos, perfect weather and no bugs. But it will absolutely be a full on adventure of field shooting in a field environment in a seriously rural area. Pack snacks and be prepared for anything!! this will be a life experience for many. It really seems like the group up there ae really putting there all into this match.
