Are ALL navy veterans SEALs or just the ones I meet?

Then I let them talk, oh how they talk. They talk about EVERYTHING name dropping names like I even know these people. Idk anyone. Like I said I didn’t do anything, anywhere for anyone.

I just tell them I pushed a muffin cart at the Naval Hospital

I usually thank them for their cervix then laugh about it with guys I know who were on the teams.

Here’s the rub, they guys I know who were 100% on the teams never talk to ME about anything and they don’t need to. I’ve heard a few stories about the training. Enough to know how to spot a fake.

I used to think it was a horrendous crime against our brothers who stood up, raised their hand and willingly sought that life. Turns out they are VP material not criminals.

If you are a stolen valor Phuck like VP hopeful Tim I hope you stub your pinky toe today, tomorrow and the next day.

Next SeAL I meet telling me silly stories I’m posting your pic online.

I had a guy do this and I suggested he went across the range to talk to the group of active duty (SEAL) fellas, he booked it.

I’ve met more “SEALs” than I can count, and several real ones.

Edit- I’m no one, but had a customer that brought several around.

My grandpa on my mom’s side was in the navy. He was a corpsman and not sure what else. Served right at the every end of The War, was somehow involved in Korea, and did a tour in Nam as a medic (I think). He wouldn’t talk about ANY of it which makes me think he didn’t get all those medals for nothing. Since then I’ve worked with a guy that was seriously messed up mentally and he claimed to be a seal from team 3 (no way I could verify it at that time and it’s been too many years now). He had some sick pictures of some people they had dealt with in the gulf war so whatever he was, he must have been involved in some crazy stuff. The final was a mechanic at a county road department. He straight up said he wasn’t a seal but was a navy diver. So I would say he’s as much of a hero as any of the others. He had some awesome pics of him doing some underwater welding on ships. He was super quiet and confident and gave off the air of someone you wouldn’t want to cross. I don’t care much for the Rob O’neils and Matt bissonettes of the world.

I know one.

First time I was introduced to him, I asked what branch he was in.
All he said was Navy and then "how did you know I was prior service"?
I asked him if he had ever looked at himself in the mirror, and you have the look. He just laughed. BIG SOB, all the tats.
About 6 months later, he shows up with about 10 friends and family at the range, he introduces me to his dad and two boys, then calls another guy over. Introduces him as "a good find of mine from the teams". Short guy, nothing but muscle. I asked him if he's written any books I should read, they both laughed and he said no, but he is running for office. We all got a big laugh outta that. Neither one had much good to say about Crenshaw.
A few months later we were talking about tax free income good old days and he told a story about Eddie Gallagher re-enlisting, on a roof, in Iraq, during a firefight. Then he says, talk about a dumbass.

I had forgotten about one other (that’s how unassuming he is). I worked with his dad and was employed by his uncle. He’s a member of team 6 if I got the clues correct. Anyway, he’s about my age (mid 40’s) and lives a quiet life out in the sticks here in Idaho. I don’t think you could buy a story from him but I’m sure he would talk to a fellow vet. He told me once that he would be out of town for a few days “for some training.” That’s the closest to any info I’ve gotten from him.

I live about 40 minutes from Bragg. Lots of SF and unit guys live here, kids go to school here etc. Most you would never know, even by looks, that they are any part of SOC or Army SF.

I met a few SEALS in Coronado when I was stationed at North Island in the early to mid 70’s. I ran all over Coronado literally , ran with a few SEALS, drank beer with them post run. They were always nice , not any braggers, in fact most were quiet and humble.
I was a tie down chain humping , chock throwing deck ape that worked on the flight deck of an aircraft carrier. I had skills they didn’t have , it all evened out !

I was at a Christmas party, for our neighborhood. It was a mixer, to get to know folks from other parts of the neighborhood, and create some cohesiveness.
I was engaged in conversation, with a lady, when over my shoulder, a guy sitting two people over, says pretty loudly, “I was a Navy SEAL.”. I sat right up, and focused my full attention. He was bragging to a lady across the table from him. He said it twice.
I was wearing a T shirt my son had made for me, showing Santa jumping from a C-47, over Normandy, in WW2 Uniform (I’m former Combat Medic with 1/327 IN, 101 Airborne, 68/69). I quietly asked a couple of questions, and maneuvered him into inviting us to have dinner with them, in the neighborhood club house. There , he expanded on his story. I asked when he went to jump school. (I was there at Benning in Late June, early August, 1966).
He said he’d not finished Jump School but was awakened in the middle of the night, by a LT, and taken to the orderly room, where he was handed over to the Navy, taken to the airport, and was the only person in the entire 737, and flown to Coronado, where he was shipped over to VN to serve on a team, and cross into Laos.
I was overwhelmed, where the fuck to start? Didn’t finish Jump School? Coronado? Only person on a 747 that hadn’t come out yet? I asked him to comment on my shirt. He didn’t say a word. Had no reference point about the scenario. We finished dinner, and I went home. My wife says to me in the car, “That asshole was a fake. You showed remarkable restraint.”
I contacted both Don Shipley (who confirmed almost immediately the guy was a dirt bag, and Doc Cox, a local SEAL, who sponsors an annual Motorcycle Rally, (Frog Rally) in Bandera TX. Both Agreed. I gave them the guy’s address. I also took a copy of the Frog Rally poster to the guy’s door, and invited him to the Rally. I’ve never seen him again, since then. I don’t know if he moved or what, and I never go to that part of the neighborhood, Hadn’t thought about that again, until I read this thread.

Can't say I've met but one SEAL, but have met more than a few Scout Snipers, a gaggle of SWCC dudes, and a couple of 160th pilots. All we great guys, and didn't say anything in regards to deployment activities. Probably because I didn't ask.
Seabees are a completely different story. Was surrounded by an entire battalion for about 6 months on a small island in the early 90s.

I know two SEALs that I met were legit because we went through an Army school together in 1981. One was the stereo typical buff, short haircut SEAL and the other older SEAL was disheaveled, longish hair and looked like he had been on a three day bender.I

I remembered seeing him when I walked in for orientation and looking over at a Marine GySgt and asking him if he was one of their's because he had camo utilities like the Marines. He said "no sir, that is one of those GD Navy SEALs".

Most of our class were special ops (I was not) and those guys were pretty tight lipped in the first week until they loosened up some.

The older SEAL beat me out for Distinguished Honor Grad of the course even though I beat him on points.

Found out many years later that he was a plank holder for SEAL Team One.

Want a good laugh? Ask the sniper about ammo, not the super secret gun. Throw in a few questions about windage or range dope. Skip the top secret gun stories and go straight for the classified data on 7.62 ballistics to 1200 meters.

For SEALS, they all gargle some flavors of nut butter. Ask them their preferences for nut butter. Maybe a story about their tactical knife too. Or have them flex.

The easy test for a true SEAL is to show them a mirror. If they cannot stop staring at themselves or meat gazing. They are legit.

One of my long time hunting buddies is a retired SF CSM. He had guys rescuing SEALS during the war. He holds them in low regard.

I worked for a guy who claimed to be a Navy SEAL (isn't in the SEAL database), surface nuke and submarine nuke (didn't graduate nuke school), one of the youngest LCDRs in modern history (he was an MM5), whose dad was the base commander of Lackland AFB as an ARMY Colonel (dad was a enlisted cook at Lackland).

I told him I know the Senior Chief with the SEAL database, and that I'd FOIA'd his records, and that I'd read his dad's obituary (where the liar was mentioned by name as one of the kids), and the dad's military history was presented in detail.

He still never backed down.

Never mind SEAL, how does anyone know they were in the Navy, or even a veteran at all? People lying about being a SEAL should not implicate all Navy veterans. If someone lies about being a Green Beret, all all Army vets dick heads as well? I knew one Navy vet that lied about his service, and it was kinda stupid. Told me he was in "'Nam"...problem is we were the same age. So unless he was 13 when deployed...
In the barracks on Ford Island we had a few UDT SEALs going to school. Nice guys, but no fun. None of them drank, which is about al we did.

Threads giving me flashbacks to my days in the teams. I was a Navy MEAL class 420, 69th group. I did 4 tours of Italy and it was brutal….So many incoming breadsticks, and my undersized fatigues were soaked in marinara, we lost 12 guys to never ending pasta bowls.
