It will be a recess appointment, it’s why Trump wanted Thume to agree to recess appointments in the first place. Gatez has as much chance of getting confirmed as I do, but that’s exactly the point, this has nothing to do with if they are capable of the position but if they are in the club or not. They are saying the same about Hagseth for defense, he’s not qualified. Hagseth served for 20 years, 2 bronze stars, multiple tours in combat, Harvard, Yale, head of a veterans group. Not qualified? The only box he didn’t check is was he a regular at DC cocktail parties, and that my friends is the standard. As much as I dislike Jesse Ventura he did say something years ago that was very true, politics used to be just like the wwf, yes they went on tv saying things about each other but after it was back slapping between democrats and republicans when the door closed. Concerning Cornyn, I’m thankful this is most likely his last term, but at the same time we can’t have all hardliners, it’s just not a reasonable expectation. Yes I would love to have 53 of Ted Cruze, Rick Scott etc, but the reality is I’m just glad to have 53 senate seats with the mix of those I have to tolerate rather than have 41 and not be able to bring a single issue to the floor or confirm anyone. It’s changing everyday and we are slowly but surely replacing the Cornyns and McConnels of the world.
While those seats are important, you are likely to have at least 5 rinos oppose Gaetz. Thune, Cornyn, Collins ,Murtowski and McConnell. You would then need 2-3 Dems to approve Gaetz. Not gonna happen.
Thinking this is a brilliant move. Dems and Rino's go apoplectic about Gaetz and other nominees which smokes out the Rino's to get primaried in the next election cycle. This is going to be a litmus test for Thune,
