I currently have a Ruger SAFAR ( got it for a great deal couldnt pass it up) in 6.5 with a DD5 V5 in 6.5 on the way. My question is what is the best power scope for shooting. I'll be shooting 300 to about 800 yards. I also would like to know ow the best scope mount. Should I go Canteliver mount on both or would regular scope rings work ( I've read that scope rings need to be extra high) any help or opinions on thos matter would be great. This is my first post so I need the Info.

I have a dd5v4 and am using a Leupold mk5 5-25 with a Leupold mount. I’m new to this type of shooting myself but the setup seems to be great so far!

I go to the Ben Avery shooting range in Phoenix az and can hit larger steel targets at 500 meters. I can’t hit the small ones yet, I have more to learn and practice still.

So you use regular rings? What height?

It’s 1.5”.

Got it!! Thanks man for the info. Definitely getting me pointed in the right direction!! I've been a Vortex devotee for years got a gen 2 razor but the Leupolds i have are just as nice. Got some more research to do. Just gotta wait till the damn gun gets here. How do you like the single stage trigger?

No problem. I think you’ll enjoy the Leupold stuff. I have 2 of their mk5 scopes and they’re great optics.

The single stage trigger takes some getting used to. I prefer the 2 stage for prone/bench shooting. But I do like it for moving and shooting drills.

So checked out the mark 5 curious why you went Canteliver vs Regular rings? It looked great loved the glass but is a big boy. What advantage does the Canteliver offer over Trad Rings?

I don’t use the cantilever on my dd5v4 6.5cm. I use the mount I posted above.

I have a dd4v7 pro with an eotech 1-10ffp and the eotech cantilever mount. I’m not opposed to that mount for the smaller rifle and a small scope.
Could you post a picture of your 6.5 cm I'd love to see how that scope sits on it in that mount and how you have it setup.

I’m still working on the setup. It has the Magpul prs gen3 stock, a Geiselle 2 stage sd-e trigger (thinking about swapping the springs in it to their national match springs), and considering adding some weights to the front of the hand guard.

Thanks. I’m glad I can be helpful. I’m pretty much a newb myself with precision shooting. I’m trying to absorb knowledge fast and get smart on this. There is definitely a great group of people here that have given me some good help.

Good luck with your rifle, I’m curious to see how it goes. Please post details when you get it. I’d like to know your accuracy results and ammo type you use.

Last one is you scope have a 56 mm objective? Have any issues when the barrel hears up?

Yep, 56mm objective. The most I’ve shot consecutively is about 60 rounds in a 90 minute period (maybe 10 rounds within a few minutes). I’m not sure if that builds enough heat to matter but I haven’t noticed anything.
Thanks brother I took your advice as well as others on older threads and ordered the mark 5hd and the same mount you have. Scope arrives today mount next week. Still waiting on my rifle to get here at my LGS. Will set it up stock put 200 or so through it and start the upgrades mentioned on this thread and others.
