Customer wanted access to the attic. Stayed 10 minutes over to do a rough in. Will be back Monday morning to trim it out.

He's lucky those are not the roots of the mighty Northeast Fire Tree. Their roots are very sturdy but upon being disturbed and especially, punctured, they can deploy a very elaborate defense by hissing loudly, spraying a noxious smelling substance all over the street and then 10 minutes later vaporize the whole area in a huge explosion... 😬😂

Working a road crew in college- we spent ample time hand digging up, over under and around an 8” pressurized sewer pipe just outside of Boise. Me and a couple buddies got called off to roll fabric under the highway on another job. Mid week, big boss is on the job we were and got a phone call- long ( and hilarious) story short, one of the Messicans didn’t want to hand dig and guided the backhoe into that pressurized sewer main and there was a 30’ fountain of turds and tampons that hammered everything and everyone around. Boss’ reaction was amazing.

This was not my handy work. A friend sent me that pic and I think it’s something he found on the interwebs. I did have a similar experience though. I was on a water project and we had a bunch of locates across a street we had to ditch across. We found the phone line in conduit and I was tracing it with a shovel while the operator dug. We got all the way across the street and the conduit ended and the cable turned hard right (utility locate didn’t show that MINOR detail). Next scoop with the excavator revealed a 200 pair phone line🤣

The sad/ worrisome thing is when you have guys who really, sincerely think that their death trap is “dun rite”. I have an acquaintance that does handyman stuff and decks. He’ll ask for a hand sometimes on an issue he’s having on a project. Every time I set foot on one of his jobs, I’m dumbfounded. The guy is borderline retarded when it comes to construction. Latest one was an older farmhouse that he assured me was built with trusses and the wall he tore down couldn’t be load bearing because the ceiling joists went end to end. The crisis was averted, but I’m still surprised that whole ceiling and roof didn’t come down on him and the family living there. I’d be surprised if he asks for help again. I wasn’t overly nice on that. To top it off, he still refuses to heed any advice.

I noticed my light fixture sagging in my bathroom. Long story short, the fixture was only supported by the ceiling tile without any other support. So I said to myself, "I better fix that." So I dig into things deeper. The entire fixture was wired in with a piece of household extension cord.
I've seen electrical work that absolutely terrified me...

Only thing I can figure is that the old saying about God watching over fools and children is legit... And most of us are luckier than we realize.

I didn't see this one but was told about it... Guy I knew said he went to replace a receptacle at a house. When he pulled it out of the box in the wall it was wired with the old twin lead ribbon cable for a TV antenna. And it was crispy and crunchy from untold years of use. 😳
