Hard to believe we inhabit the same planet as these idiots

Jesus..

It's not even accurate. I think i read recently that the poles shifted like 41 miles in the last couple years. The idea that pumping groundwater had anything to do with it is just..... man, I don't even know what to say. They can only write articles like this because there are enough idiots out there that believe them to make it worth their while.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news but..................................everytime it rains or snows we get the groundwater back.

The problem is idiots. Idiots cannot imagine a world were they are not the center of the earth and the blame for all the problems on the planet.

We probably cause plate tectonics.
I can’t believe I just had to read this.

Bringing this back up due to another article. The OP article tells us we're removing too much groundwater (like moving ballast around on a ship) and it's causing the earth to tilt on it's axis. This new article tells us we have way TOO MUCH GROUNDWATER and it's a contributing factor in causing land to sink and the seas to rise by at least 3.2 ft by the year 2100. That old deceiver satan is hard at work...

Let me get this straight. The theory is that so much water is being pumped out of the ground that we are filling the oceans and relocating mass to other parts of the planet?

I would hope if this is true, we would be questioning the amount of water left in the ground. I wonder how that water got in the ground to begin with?

Dudes an Iranian fear mongering in English based us media.

Just saying…

I don’t know of a single point in history there has been that drastic a sea level (edit-) change in such a short time with out all life on earth having bigger issues.

What we should be worrying about is all the loss of soil and dirt going into the air when the wind blows - causing the land to appear to be sinking because the dirt settles in the ocean and displaces water to make it deeper. We’re all going to drown in all the displaced water unless we increase taxation on the sources of wind and dust!

I know we all hate science and "The man" but if the pole shifted 31.5 inches, you'd barely notice. In fact our axis is always moving (preciession)--its why we have things like the Milankovitch cycles.

Also the "spin pole" and "magnetic pole" are NOT the same. The magnetic pole has been wandering for years and making a run for Russia since 1980. It acutally flips periodically (the south pole magnetic pole is actually in the northern hemisphere right now).

Yes the Fukisima EQ did "alter" the rotation of the earth. It shortened the day by a couple of thousandsths millionths of a second. It shifted the axis by a few inches. Considering that the earth is 251095680 inches (3963 miles because fuck metric) in radius, a difference of 31 would be a .0000001 change. (.00001%--Yes I counted).

The speedup was 1.8 millionths of a second

or .0000018 seconds

For comparison if you shot off that amount at 1000 yards your hit would be off by 4/1000 of an inch.

aka its bullshit and lost in the noise.

There's the old question: can monkeys type out shakespear at random. THe answer is YES, they can. The TIME it takes is actually longer than the life of the universe. This is what happens when you fuck with big numbers and scales. We understand inches and seconds. We don't understasnd how big earth is

This is what our natural "wobble" looks like and its a lot more than a few inches:

That rock has been moved and the area has experienced a little less than 2 feet of tidal shift in that area Since the 1620’s.

Look off the coast of Florida there is at a water depth of 21ft a 7,200 year old Indian archaeological site.

One of the issues with most early civilizations as they formed along coast lines, and with the rise of the seas, since the last Ice Age have been buried under the waters.

But the rock with 1620 carved in it is literally internet bullshit.

Kind of funny that in a thread where you’re talking about news articles sharing ignorant shit you post some ignorant shit.

Are you Tarded?

Like this Iranian jackass trying to sell a 3 foot water rise in the next 70 years?

Got ta stop dem farmers from pumping the ground dry.

I am going to point out that here in the middle American desert. The drying up of creeks and seeps and many wetlands over the last 30 years started with the widespread use of irrigation sprinklers and required well metering and control by the government of gtound water pumping. As well as a court ruling requiring 60% of all stored water be sent down the Arkansas to Kansas. This water disappears around Lakin, the Arkansas River hasn't run at Garden city for years.

The amount of water being pumped out of the ground and applied to the surface was drastically reduced. And that is the reason for the drying of many seeps creeks and wetlands here. The re-desertification is as intentional as the war on farming.

Many old timers would decry how many creeks had dried up in their lifetime. Looking around on Google earth here in the desert. I see washed out abandon and forgotten dams ditches and irrigation canals all over. That creek ran because people were storing water. William Bent was here trapping beavers at that time they were the ones storing water in creeks and drainages.

Surely the 17 locks and damns built along the river haven’t affected it either.

Find the documentary "Texas, A State of Water"

I think you'll find it interesting and contradicting to arguments that it's farmer's and irrigation causing the problem.

Actually IIRC they calculated the impact 3 gorges dam had on earth rotation. It was small but measurable... (cause we are like really good at measuring mostly). reminder your GPS has to take into account relativistic corrections--so its an insane level accuracy. And jus tbecause it can be measured, doesn't mean it has an "impact"

Even were the day 1 second longer (and most of this stuff is in the millionths of a second) that is a 0.001 PERCENT change. So the percent change from these things is more like 0.00000001.

Its what we nerds call "Zero" unless you are a math major. But fuck those guys too.
