Rifle Scopes Burris XTR3!!!

That’s saying a lot if it can outperform some of the real expensive ones.

Mine certainly won't "outperform" expensive optics, but my U.S. made XTR III (non-illuminated) is certainly the best scope that I've purchased in the $900 - 1300 range.

To some degree - since it hasn't failed me on multiple rifles - it has been just as repeatable and reliable (to this point) as scopes that cost more for sure.

Maybe I got two good examples, but to my eyes I think the optical quality is better than my NXS, ATACR, & Gen II razor of which I have owned several of each. Not saying any of these scopes are not great in their own right as we all know they are, rather the US made Burris XTRIII 5.5-30 is shockingly good especially for the $1000ish price range they were being sold for. I had the 3.3-18 and it wasn’t nearly as good as the 5.5-30. Maybe Burris isn’t as consistent from scope to scope quality like NF & Vortex Razor line. I can’t comment on that as I have only owned 3 Burris scopes in my life (these XTRIII), but I know the consistency in the others.

Don’t get me wrong I am not here to fan boy Burris in any way, I am just putting out my thoughts.

My two XTR3’s, one illum model and the other the non-illum, both were optically better then the Steiner T6 I had

The 5-30 seemed to have the best glass compared to the 3-18 version.

You know what you need to try

It's always great to see people who like their scopes post. Usually it's just the haters.

Burris really began doing great in the tactical scope market with the XTRII. Not great glass, but bulletproof performance. They flat killed with the XTRIII. No it's not the best scope on the market, but it's consistently one of the top scopes in it's price point. The Pro has just been the cherry on top.

They're very good scopes and the very large majority of folks that own them, like them.

The Race Dials are the bomb!! Customizable turrets for any rifle. Erase and re-write any time. Or cover it with tape for the hunting season, the turret is designed to be the exact width as standard Scotch tape, with a knife tip cut line to remove it. Here's the hunting setup on my 300 Norma elk rifle this year. Range and dial!!

I finally got a Burris XTR3, won one at a match, I had intended to buy one once the illuminated version came out but never did (a variety of reasons).

It's a non illuminated 3.3-18x50.
The turrets are nice, dragon scales are really not bad, turret resistance is about right and no backlash in the clicks.

Putting it on a tripod and comparing to a few other scopes, the glass isn't as good as I'd expected.
Definitely worse than my Delta Stryker (so I'm guessing other LOW 4.5-30 scopes) but better than my PST Gen2 3-15.

I'll try doing some more optical testing in different conditions, but so far it's a little disappointing, however the overall package is pretty good and an upgrade over the PST Gen2 3-15 which is what I'd always been looking for, capped windage being a huge selling point.

I think the glass might perform better once mounted on a rifle as even being a small amount off center seems to make the CA and edge clarity considerably worse.

I found the glass is noticeably better in the 5.5-30 vs the 3.3-18, but I get that you won that scope. I have found all of mine to track perfectly and thus far have been durable.

Been playing with it a reasonable bit today.
Below 12x the glass is excellent, above 12x the resolution drops off considerably, and the contrast gets worse.

I'm keen to use the scope for a while, I like the reticle, turrets, and FOV. Kinda like the opposite of my Delta Stryker (glass is greats, FOV not, reticle a bit meh).

If I like it I'll consider buying a 5.5-30 or even a Pro, depending on the local importer.

I have a nonilluminated 3.3-18 and a nonilluminated 5.5-30... the 5.5-30 is incredible, the 3.3-18 is pretty disappointing in comparison.

Now that it’s cold, I understand the gripe about the turrets.

When it was 23 degrees and my hands were numb I see the complaint about the turret scales. Not really a deal breaker, but a valid observation.
