I am looking for a mini scout light. Right now the surefire mini 350s are on sale at primary arms for $210

But part of me wonders if I should get an arisaka 18350 or the mod light version if it, both are around $280+

This is going on the pic rail of a Tavor for Run n Gun white light matches. Tail cap doesn’t have to be crazy, I would just turn on during the load and make ready portion so I don’t need a tape switch at the moment. Ranges sub 200 yards

Anyone who has tried an arisaka or mod light, are they basically worth the extra $100 over the surefire?

I've only run surefire. So no advise on the arasaka or modlite. But I will say your gonna want a tail cap that let's you have a push button on off. Just way simpler and make weapon manipulation that much easier

I ran a scout pro for a night 2 gun and a night run and gun this year. I ended up buying a modlite head for more throw. Beyond 125-150 yards or if there was no wind, the smoke from the muzzle or just lack of Illumination from the lamp of the Surefire hindered MY ability to find/engage targets. I don’t have this issue with the modlite head.

Trade off is the beam is very narrow so if you are scanning you’re giving up flood.

I have read from two people now that have done a night RnG with a surefire that they made the move to modlite afterwards.

You can buy the $200 head if you’re already set up with a newer Scout or Scout Pro. Watch what you order if you go this route. I recall one doesn’t play well with the one of the battery types.

Standard mini scout will have a wider beam pattern and can only use standard size 123 batteries. If you go with the mini scout turbo that’s the high candela narrow beam pattern. It also uses a rechargeable 18350 battery or it can also use a 123 at reduced output. The turbo head will no fit a standard mini scout body. I’d go the turbo route if you’re looking for throw vs flood.

In my experience Modlite heads have a smaller hot spot but give a wider halo around it. I prefer the Modlight head to the surefire.
Don't forget the Cloud Defense.
I like the CD because they are duel fuel and will accept both protected and unprotected cells in 18650 as well as CR123.The REIN Micro can use 18350 protected or unprotected and CR123. Modlight reccomends protected only. The full size REIN is a power house with a combination tail and tape switch.

Are you talking about a one cell CR123 light or the Surefire "Mini scout" that takes a AAA battery?
I think you're thinking of the micro scout which I've thought looks interesting but have resisted buying because I already bought expensive thermal and night vision so flash lights are obsolete to me :ROFLMAO:

You're right, it is Micro.

But you can find it listed/shown as the Mini online though, I checked to straighten out my own confusion, and that wrong info is what threw me.

(I actually own a micro, it's on a shotgun)

How do you like it? I've considered it for a night gun for when I want to cross a fence or something and don't want barb wire in my nuts. Seems like it would fit nicely on a helmet too

You mean other than costing WAY too much?
I mean, it works, and of course it's just a single AAA light, sure not blinding anyone. I bought it to put on a shotgun that was way too heavy already, and that I hated will a full sized light on it. I guess I still hate it, but not as much. For what you're talking about you might as well buy like an Arisaka ring mount and put a small single cell AA light in it for a fraction of the cost.

weapon mounted modlite . What is realistic distance to ID yote vs dog ? 150 yard 200 300?

Also can someone explain the difference between these two
  • OKW 680 lumens and 69,000 candela
  • PLHV2 1350 lumens and 54,000 candela
I don’t understand the difference between lumens and candela .

My best light is a Surefire EDCL2-T
I’m looking for something that has more range if that makes sense.

Think of lumens as overall output and candela as the hot spot.
