just received my first press.. Why is the mount not 90 degrees??? All the new ones are.. do they make a wedge? So confused? Thanks for putting up with me..

It is just the way they made those back then.

Try not to let it bother you, or if it makes you that unhappy just use it till you either decide to change it or you may find it doesn't matter.

The tilt was for two purposes, one was bench clearance and the other was to keep the case biased back on the shell plate clearance.
Both issues are a "salt to taste" design parameter and make some folks happy and others don't care.

It looks like it has been very lightly used and in good shape. You should not let it bug you. YMMV

Thanks. My neighbor gave it to me. Just starting and all my thinking was everything should be plumb. 1 step closer to loading my first 6.5-06 rounds

I had a Lyman press that was similar to this. I stopped using it for the sizing die.

The reason was that the plate (top part holding all the die) would slightly pivot on the center bolt, thus come in at a slight angle, and the brass would not be sized properly. I could correct it by placing a shim in the back. That got to be kind of a hassle though and I ended up just getting a different press.

Just something to watch for on this type of press. Hopefully this one doesn't have that issue.
