I annealed it, it's brand new.

Why did you anneal new brass?

I guess I should add I run all Lapua brass which is annealed at the factory. I anneal after that but not virgin brass. So mostly just curious
I anneal virgin lapua. It ensures everything has been treated in the same consistent manner. I then mandrel. It’s noticeably nicer seating a bullet.

Cascade, tumble it for a bit and see if that annealing oxidation residue looks nearly as alarming. Its why I brush my case necks. Cases look fine to me.

Don't know if you've done it before, but I've cooked some a few times. If my parboiled brass would collapse or even go out of round between my thumb and index finger, I consider it well done and I chunk it.

That appears to be expensive brass so I hope the case mouth keeps it's shape.

    Should I tumble this too?

Color will also change if you use a cleaning solution and don't get it all off. You should see some of the kaleidoscopes I get on my Lapua :)

Starline washes their brass with a preservative coating. It'll look more normal on the second or third annealing. I've been annealing new brass for a long time. The 223 brass in the first post was annealed for 8 seconds with map gas. It's probably under annealed.

I’m pretty sure all new brass is annealed as part of the manufacturing process. Part of what you’re paying for with premium brass is the manufacturing consistency.

It won’t hurt it of you safety re-anneal. AMP’s FAQ confirms this in with respect to annealing a piece twice by accident.

You just have to ask yourself if you trust your annealing process to be better/more consistent than Lapua’a manufacturing process. If you’re using an AMP or properly setup automated flame annealer it’s probably ok.
