26 pound 375 CT Recoil

I have all the pieces to build a 33XC or a 338 LM on a BAT CT 1.47" action with a Manners ELR light stock with a 1.45" barrel blank, and I saw a BAT CT Cheytac bolt available for sale, and I was curious about the recoil of the 375CT... It would weigh about 26 pounds.

I have put 250 rounds through a 28 pound 416 Barrett (M99 24" barrel, hunter model) and the recoil isn't bad, and I have used it in a couple ELR matches. It's a slow twist so I used 416 grain bullets loaded by Thunder Ammo, and they were around 2900fps

I also shot around 700 rounds through an 20 pound 338LM, many with a Silencerco Hybrid 46, and that recoil is fine too. 300 grain Bergers going about 2860 fps.

I was curious if anyone can give me an idea of the 375 recoil, as I imagine it would be similar to my 416 Barret pusing 416 grain bullets at 2900fps, since I'd probably be shooting 375 cal Berger Hybrid or the 400 grain Cutting Edge.

Is the 375 CT recoil a fast kick like a hunting rifle? or a slower push like a 416 Barrett?

Or is it much better to go with a 1.75" or 1.6" adult Cheytac size receiver and build it out that way

I just looked up the weight of the Cadex Shadow in 375CT and looks like it's around 20 pounds, depending on barrel length, and some have said the recoil of that rifle is not bad at all.

I dont have a 375 or 338, however, using Gordons Reloading Tool (highly recommend getting, its free), the recoil energy of the .375 410 gr Berger at 2800 would result in about 39ftlbs of energy, the 338 LM would produce 25 ftlbs of energy, and the 416 Barrett produces 62ftlbs of energy. This doesnt account for brakes or added friction (bipods, bags, etc).

I've got a 408 CT and shooting the 420 gr CE bullets with a suppressor. Rifle is Cadex Shadow and not running any additional weights of any kind. Recoil to me feels similar to 12 gauge trap loads. Recoil is there but not too bad at all. I would equate it more to a 338 style of recoil that is more of a shove than a sharp, fast jab. Worst rifles I've shot have been 30 caliber magnums as the recoil is very fast and sharp. Hopefully this gives you some context from a purely anecdotal perspective.

Thank you for the heads up... I've seen Chuck Hawks, but I'll check out Gordons.
The 39ftlbs doesn't sound terrible, and I thought the 338 was in the mid 30's though, but depends on the values of the parameters entered.

My DT HTI 375ct comes in at around 31lbs,s..... fitted with a Terminator T5, its a pussy cat to shoot..

400gr bullets at near 3kfps in my 22lb rifle is no problem recoil-wise. IF you have a good brake. I have an APW, and my daughter and her friend (100lbs, 15/16y old girls) shoot it without issue - just use good hearing protection

A warning: do not get this idea in your head that you can run a suppressor and have a rifle that shoots as tamely we posters above are describing it.

Unless somebody comes out with a good can with an anchor break on it, or you are going to pay $6000 for the thunder beast 50 caliber can which is 2 feet long, you need a good brake not a can to tame recoil in anything 338 Lapua and bigger

Recoil reduction with a good break will be 50 to 65%. That with a can without an anchor break will be 30% tops and maybe less than 10%.

I ran a SiCO Hybrid 46 on my 338LM and it wasn't bad, but it definitely made the recoil a bit more sharp. I shot one ELR match with it, but decided to go with a brake for the next ELR match.

I have the Barrett QDL with the anchor brake and it really helps with the recoil on the 416 Barrett which isn't bad to begin with.

I never really did any testing with it to check point of impact shift after removing it and putting it back on, and I left it on for the 2 day match I shot it at. My new 416B build just has a good 5 port brake on it. I haven't shot it yet, but with the 40" barrel, and weighing about 38 pounds, it should be easy to shoot.

The stock I have for the potential 375CT is easy to get behind, so I imagine with a good brake and a heavy barrel, recoil should be nothing to worry about.
