    Just got my 3rd S&B 5-45 High Power .... Previous ones are...MT .5cm LRR Reticle .

This latest one is DTII+ and .1mrad....GR2ID Reticle...

Having both the 6-36 and 10-60 S&B,s.....the 5-45 is right up there optically!!
Unlike many I prefer the old layout of separate illumination dial, and prefer the older focus dial..

The 5-45 is dismissed by a lot , but its a very very good optic.

    Compared to the S&B 6-36 and 10-60..

The 6-36 has better Contrast , wider FOV ( Aussie Version ) , shorter and lighter weight.

10-60 again has slightly more contrast than the 5-45 , FOV is very similar. The one aspect of the 10-60 that detracts from it great optical performance , is that once you get the scope away form the centre of the erector you start to get an "Egg" shaped view..

The area of the 5-45 that has surprised me is its outright "Resolution" !! It is exceptionally "Sharp" and resolves a lot of detail.
I rate it ahead of the 6-36 in this aspect and neck and neck with the 10-60.
Image remains razor sharp from 5 all the way to 45...NO distortion to the image in anyway..
Its a BIG optic and heavy !

    Again its a great optic..

Doing some comparisons with the 5-45 and 6-36 yesterday..
Once above circa 25x the 5-45 really shows its advantage with clarity and resolution over the 6-36 !!

The new Tr2id Reticle on the 6-36 is very nice..

How obstructive is the Grid reticle? On paper it looks crazy but am sure it’s different in person.
It does take some getting used to... On my 3-27 i dont like it...On the 5-45 because its "smaller" in proportion to cater for the higher mag powers it is much better.
Its an interesting reticle.. If you want to spend time looking through the optic admiring scenery and such ..its terrible as it just everywhere., in your face
IF you use it as intended ..ie ..at targets and such its actually very good and very practical !!

I will get you some pics at various powers......

    Appreciate it!

So is it $2000 better than the 10-60? CMII are running for $2,999
    That scope has CW dials.
Great value if you are not locked into CCW dials!
Another disadvantage of the combined parallax/illumination dial is that the width of the scope is now about 4”. The cheaper hard cases are about 4” in width and I was worried about the dials being bumped. Purchased a Pelican 1755 at 8” in width. Expensive and HEAVY!!!

    Don’t mind CW turrets.

You know, I’m not a poor by any means, but what exactly do you do for a living???
I believe the dude literally owns a tank, so…whatever he does, it’s “sufficient” lol more power to him.

    Since @carbonbased mentioned my Cent.....

The old girl is quite an important part of Aussie history.... 169064 participated in the battle of Binh Ba in the Vietnam conflict...... helped save many lives .... She was hit and penetrated by an RPG but continued to support.

After my restoration i tracked down the 3 surviving crew , organised a re union for them and 169064 ....they hadn't seen each other ( or the Tank) since 1971 .
    Was incredibly emotional !!!

My restoration took approx. 15yrs and an incredible lot of work

Off Topic...but thought may be of interest to some..

Love the tank, love the story even better!

Regarding the Schmidt 5-45, when I had mine (review with March Gen1 5-42) I was extremely impressed with the Schmidt, for a 9x erector it was impressively forgiving and edge to edge sharpness is surprisingly good.

That's pretty freakin awesome! I bet that was quite the experience reuniting those guys with their tank.

    It really was!!!
I didn't expect it to be so emotional .... But after listening for several days of their stories ( Bad and Good) i had a whole new appreciation of the blokes who went over to Vietnam AND to the Australian Tanks that played a big role there!!

The Tank was basically there mobile home as well as their protector and obviously their "weapon" when needed.
