I'm looking for something that might not exist, at least as far as my Google skill is concerned.

I hunt a lot, and all over the country. My vision is some type of Goose Neck trailer with a tilt deck or low-boy style deck, long enough to carry a bunch of Japanese quarter horses or a bigger SxS; maybe both.

What I'm struggling to find is an option that has some type of overland type setup for remote camping. I don't need the creature comforts, but would pay for them if there was an all-in-one type deal. Ideally looking for something 4-season.

I'm not looking for a Toy Hauler / Camper setup. Have one. Love it. Need something lighter that can take some abuse.

Anyone come across something of this nature?

I know a guy who kind of did that. Took a long gooseneck flatbed and put a little RV without the wheels on the front and then in the back he had his off-road vehicle. It was kind of cool. Generator, lots of water and fuel.

He had a ton of room when the razor(?) wasn’t part of the deal. Multiple motorcycles, multiple ATVs. He didn’t baby it.

Almost everywhere he went people said “I want one of those!”

One of my Cowboy Action Shooters built a platform for his flatbed to place his tent on with tie downs and some modular boxes where it stepped down from the goose neck. It seems to work for him. If you already have a flat bed trailer, maybe look at a roof mount tent to mount on the goose neck part and some removable storage for the front.

The trailer Windrider showed looks good, but not enough spare tires for the places I’ve gone.

Build it… lots of trailer kits out there.

Bigger and larger-arch springs and/or extended shackles on springs. Set axles further apart. Bigger wheels and rugged tires (trailer tires have zero off—road strength)

Convert to pintle hitch. Raised taillights. If you can fit a surge brake instead of electric junk… definitely do that.

Metal deck, not wood. Basic welding skills and wrenching skills is all you need.

If you can buy a surplus Hmmwv trailer… it’s a great start!

Jumping jack trailers might be on your list , they have a folding tent on the front and have a system that allows you to load a SxS on top of the tent when stowed for travel ,I'll try to post a link.

Surge brakes are dumb. If you don't want wires at the brakes at least go electric over hydraulic. If you ever need to grab the trailer brakes you're shit outta luck with surge brakes. Why do you think they're never an option outside of cheap boat trailers?

Pintle hitches are also worthless. Many miles of listening to one of those pieces of shit clunk and bang. They belong nowhere near civilized vehicles.

Metal and wood both have their place. I prefer wood decks, but rough cut fir is plentiful here and lasts 10-15 years on the equipment trailers.

Well the OP is looking for overland… on road going trailers… I’d agree with most of above.

But if he is truly going seriously off road… I stand by my recommendations.

Pintle hitches do suck on the road! But if your rig is going one way and your trailer another… a pintle (a proper rotating one) does things a ball can’t! And a gooseneck really can’t!!

Hence the quotations...

But I read it as he had tools for the trails. He wants a little gooseneck to haul down the highway and gravel roads.
Hell, I've seen ranchers take gooseneck horse trailers where most here wouldn't take their trucks.

Build it.

Work with @TxWelder35 to design and build.

I have been looking a lighter durable trailer to build out the way I want.
Not much on the market works for me.
And the stuff that is close is stupid expensive because they beef it up a tad and put OFFROAD all over it.

Or skip the ATVs and hike……
😉

I’ve had 6 x 50 lb bags of corn, me, my wife, and both sons riding a single Polaris Sportsman 850 4 wheeler. My rough estimate is north of 800 lbs. That’s WAY over it’s rated payload, but it got the job done. Hard to believe you couldn’t drag in a pretty impressive camp with a couple of 4 wheelers or side by sides. And, that is leaving the toy hauler at the edge of the pavement…

Someone mentioned these. I believe they will do custom configurations as well. If you want to go with the pintle for more flexibility off road as @sirhrmechanic then your local welder can adapt the hitch easily enough. As a truck driver I’d suggest the electric brakes though as surge brakes can be a pain on a down grade and I’ve had them heat the trailer brakes up something fierce. Just my $.02

More guys that say that need tags in the units I hunt!!! 🤣🤣🤣

I love it.
No better vacation to me than a pack on my back and miles to hammer.
Sleep out under the stars is best.
Tent is good for weather or bugs.

Hunting too? Even better!!

I have a sticker that says “Hunt with the quads God gave ya!”

Fellas,

Thanks for all the recommendations. The hide never disappoints.

Horse trailers may work, but I'm leaning towards a purpose built trailer that's quick to hook-up to and roll out.

I should have clarified, I like the Overland capability of being self contained and ready to go with all essentials, but the most off-roading this trailer would see is washboard dirt roads. The SxS and ATVs are to get me a little further into the woods or away from camp. It's on foot from there.

@TxWelder35 I've got some ideas to run by you if interested.

Haha! I did that on an archery elk hunt in the Idaho side of hells canyon. Man, it sucked and I loved every minute of that hunt. That country chews guys up and spits them back out into the salmon river drainage. The quads only work up on top of the mountain where the roads and trails are.
