If you bought a rifle off the forum, a specific model that has very specific parts, and you didn’t ask if it was a stock rifle, and their ad doesn’t mention if it is stock or not, and the rifle shows up with all the good parts taken off, Would you consider that a shady business deal? For example, if you bought a Seekins Precision PH2 NRL which comes stock with a TriggerTech Diamond trigger, and it shows up and it’s not a Diamond trigger, would you have a problem with it?

I'd consider that kind of sketchy of the seller. You should always mention if something is changed or different than expected.
That's kind of sketchy but maybe he honestly forgot he'd changed that out. what was in place of it?

Specs change. It's entirely possible that rifle is exactly how it left the factory. Without specifics to your situation, can't really judge.

A seller should list exactly what is for sale. If certain components are shown, but not included, or explicitly excluded from the sale, that is deception. If I have 1965 Mustang for sale that has a built performance engine, but intend to install the stock engine for the sale, I'd better let it be known, before the buyer purchases.

I've always tried to be 100% up front when I sell stuff, but with a few different projects I can see things getting forgotten about. Especially if it's something rarely used.
However if I emailed him and he said pound sand. Then yeah shady as fuck.

I've learned to always ask about what you're expecting - if it isn't listed. Not doing so is on you.
I've also learned that 50% of the sellers online will tiptoe around or misrepresent what they have to some extent. If they are missing the photo of an angle, ask for clarification before you commit. I've learned how to gunsmith S&W revolvers to a good extent because of my naiivete in years past.

Here's where I'd contact the seller and try to clarify what the agreement should have been. If they don't try to meet you mid-way, mark them down as someone you'll not piss on if they were on fire and then nurse your wounds as you learned a lesson.

I know some dudes love buying used, but man, buying used guns and used cameras/lenses over the internet are tricky for me. I think the 50% misrepresentation rate cited above might be higher.
