    6.5CM only is annoying. Where's the 7mm or 308

Gotta draw the line somewhere even though it’s going to piss some shooters off. But yeah I get it. Some want to shoot a PRS match with their hunting style rifle caliber that’s other than 6.5CM. Next thing you know people will want Sportsman Factory, Sportsman Tac, Sportsman Open.. it’ll go on and on.

I'm down for this minus caliber restriction, weight of suppressor shouldn't be included however as it's a recoil disadvantage. This is just to get more NRL Hunter open light guys to shoot more PRS matches, pay more money, buy more shit🤣 I for one will be running lighter more practical rig this next season. The race gun game is kinda getting old.

I’m personally excited for this division and will definitely be shooting matches with my hunting rifle. while I’m very nearly there, have almost 2000 rounds on the 6.5CM barrel I’ve been running and my rifle is NRL qualifying but not under 13lbs. What’s best way to shed 1.5lbs in barrel from a 5lb 26” steel barrel to make weight. Already in a manners LRH with lightweight rings and a 34oz kahles.

Carbon wrapped proof or fluted bartlein #3B or #4?

You could get there with a 22" remington varmint or a 23" heavy fluted m24 as Ken did.

I was 15oz over with my remington varmint 700 22" barrel, harris/grey ops bipod, mk5 7-35 and mdt acc gen2 chassis. I'd have enough room to add .my suppressor if I switched stocks out to one of the carbon options.

Here is a place you can war game your barrel.

I weighed a 26” Proof carbon Sendero chambered in 6.5CM and it was 48.3 oz (3.0 lbs) on my shipping scale.
I also recall PBB via email telling me that the .750 Taperless profile fluted will be under 3 pounds.

I suppose the thing to do is call Bartlein and see what they say, 3.5lbs is my goal for a finished chambered and threaded barrel that will be light enough to keep me safely under 13 closer to 12

22” would be a perfectly workable length. Thanks for the info

    I heavily fluted a 24in m24, weight was 4# 2oz. I'd just go light palma. I know my 22in light palma 6mm is 3# 8oz.

This was where I was at with my gen 2 chassis example above, I forgot to add that the barrel also was wearing my griffin 2 port suppressor mount during this weight check and the scope here is a Vortex strike eagle at 3 oz lighter than the m5 Leupold.

I was just wanting an idea of where I'd stand with my lightest gear at the time.

My hunting rifle is a few pounds more 🤣

Any reason you’d go with a Palma contour over the #4 bull shorter?
Lighter by near 3/4 #, 750 muzzle at 26". Lt palma is kinda my go to hunting contour anymore, lighter than #3 yet can finish 5/8x24 threads at all finish lengths. #2 is ideal if under 20". I don't do the fluting thing too often, have fluted barrels that shot very well to save 4-5oz and then they didn't shoot great after. I'd just take a shorter or slimmer contour barrel. Steel barrels have always shot more consistent and been less picky than carbons for me an average.

I appreciate that they are trying to come up with a new classification to attract hunters and guys with cheaper rifles. Having said that, there is a lot of changes that should be made to attract new competitors.

    Here's my thoughts,
1- any caliber except magnums or high velocity stuff that damages steel plates. Part of the learning curve is recoil management but if a guy only has a lightweight 30/06 then so be it, at least they can shoot and get their ass kicked the same day.

2- Major factory produced rifles only, i.e. Remington, Begera, Tikka, Ruger, ect. NO BULLSHIT "PRODUCTION " rifles from GAP, MPA, Badrock and others. The current "production " class is a complete joke with the available options that are simply discounted custom guns.

3- Once you've won a few matches it's time to move up to a different class, no hanging around beating brand new shooters every match. This is another reason the current production class is a joke, make guys class up if they are continuously winning the production or sportsman class.

NO PARTICIPATION TROPHIES!! Nothing pisses me off worse than someone taking a trophy, getting their hero picture taken and they are the only fucking person that shot in that class, I see it match after match in the tactical, LEO and woman's division and it's bullshit to get a trophy for 1st out of 1!

There are very few rifles that have a 10 round mag that will be within the weight limit with a bipod and FFP scope suitable for PRS - nothing about this division will be cheap. 6.5C and <13lbs will also make this the least beginner friendly division there is.

This is a division for NRL Hunter Open Light competitors.

That’s almost like the same 1/2 dozen shooters rolling dice to see who walks the prize table first this weekend. It’s cool to really good at doing things, but eventually the “also rans” move on if they are always up against nationally ranked competitors.

Honestly getting my ass handed to me by a very seasoned shooter doesn't affect me in a negative way at all, it actually motivates me to try harder, learn and become a better shooter. I get that some people don't have that much competivness or grit in them and totally see your point. I think that's where most beginners should start in production, tac or sportsman class and once their successful there then move up to open.

The fallacy that getting stomped regularly is the best way to improve ability and that those who don’t advance well that way are weak soft individuals, often breaks down in practice. I can beat the shit out of my kids. Eventually some of them will grow up and even the score. That does not make actually help them much.
A more nuanced approach with challenges appropriate to their ability along with achievable goals that constantly rise as they advance works better. I think too many shooters still dream of being a high speed low drag killing machine, like that is actually achievable now, if it ever was. 99.9% of us, probably you and certainly myself included, are a absolute fucking jokes compared to the abilities of a 20 something who makes it into even any 2nd tier unit.

Those are some powerful assumptions you pulled out of my question. Again, why do you care? Specifically, what harm does giving out awards to juniors and women inflict upon you?

Are you serious?? You don't see any problem with passing out an award for competing against nobody? I dont care who or what division it is, if you are the only one in that division that day than you didn't actually compete so why would you deserve anything of recognition?

Obviously your stuck on thinking people deserve participation trophies, why do you think it's a great idea to recognize someone who simply showed up???

Someone else getting a trophy or being recognized takes nothing away from my performance. Again, why do you care? I'm assuming you're an adult male, if that's the case why do you care if a youth shooter or woman shooter is recognized? By your own admission, you're not getting a trophy anyway so why does someone else "not deserving" a trophy make you so upset?

Personally, I'm neutral on giving out trophies for low attendance divisions. That's the MD's choice if they want to recognize someone. For the woman/youth divisions, if being recognized for showing up gives that shooter the confidence to come back and shoot the next match then that's a great thing. If production or tac getting a trophy upsets you cause they're not "competing" then you're welcome to shoot the division and give them someone to beat.

I have MD’d a few times and I thought the PRS mandated trophy’s for each division. I’m just saying I don’t think it’s the MDs choice. I dunno haven’t done it in a few years been too busy.

I’d give out one trophy, first place.

Everyone else is just a loser. I actually shit can all my non-first place trophy’s. I just don’t want my kids to see that I’d actually be happy with losing.

As someone new to precision shooting who is turned off by the specialized rifles used in PRS, I think this division is awesome!

Honestly first time I've really considered building a "prs" rig.

I do think 6.5CM only is a huge mistake. Just make it 6.5mm or larger caliber.
