We received four A4s last week, three rifles and one pistol. They all sold withing 24 hours of hitting the store and I bought one of the rifles as I am a hopeless HK fan and I freely admit it.
All I have done with the rifle is take it to the range and zero the optics and then shoot some at 100 yards. So the comments about the rifle, it feels at least a pound lighter than the MR556 and I think a lot of this is the thinner barrel profile. The handguard is made by HK and is thinner then the previous mlok version and lighter, definitely lighter then the quad pic rail. The lower is now full ambi and functions as advertised. The trigger is actually the same full auto you get with the 416, just no sear. The furniture is changed, lighter then before. You no longer need the butt stock tool to take down the rifle, just normal pins like any other AR.
From the factory, HK test every rifle sold and they leave with the following. 10 shots, 100 meters, 30mm group. They do not say if they shoot it out of a sled (I am assuming they do) but it is sub moa rifle with factory ammo if you do your part. Having said that, I did not do my part over 10 rounds three times. On every single group (I tried three times) shooting Winchester Lake City 62 grain, I pulled at least once. If we had been shooting 8 shot groups it would have been sub moa. Even pulling some shots, my worst group was 1.2 moa at 100 yards and best was 1.12 moa.
After looking at it, I am going to try again over Christmas with a setup that I think will get better accuracy. I am going to bring a couple of different ammos including 77 grain IMI Razorcore and 77 grain Blackhills and I will scrounge around for a third group. I am going to put an actual bipod on the rifle instead of resting it on my backpack and bring a rear bag. I am also going to go with a better/higher magnification scope to see if I can reproduce the factory claimed accuracy. Since I am talking about accuracy, I am going to repeat what the HK rep told us about the barrel. It is a blank sent over from Germany. It is not chrome lined. HK says that they can not find anyone to chrome line the barrels to the standards required. To that end, they are also saying that the chrome content of the barrel steel is higher then most US made barrels and that they have multiples of rifles that are still shooting sub moa past 12k rounds. To me, that is almost besides the point because HK has gone full SOLGW on us and they guarantee the barrel in writing. If you shoot it out and the groups open up, they will replace the barrel for life of the gun.
MAC I think he does a good job showing the changes from the 556 to the A4
This is a video from 9holes, they take it to the range and give their thoughts.
