Rifle for home defense. What Caliber?

why bother. 10mm is available in factory loading but 45 super isn’t.

Best weapons for home defense in reality:

1. A job - to pay property taxes so .gov doesn't steal it.
2. A 2nd job - to pay utilities so corp america doesn't turn them off.
3. A condom - so kids don't destroy it.
4. A good attorney - so the ex doesn't take it.
5. A good warning sign - "This house protected by a horny gay man with AIDS."
6. A son named Kevin - that you leave behind for family vacations.
7. A good weapon - pink Glock 19 so you can mock them after they're dead.
#6 FTW

Anyone who has actually taken tactical training has ruled out rifles & shotguns and learned how NOT to telegraph your position. Any HP pistol round will do...I prefer .40 cuz I have so much of it.

I used to be solidly in the .45acp camp and had good logical reasons……I switched to 9x19 years ago and switched from a 5” steel 1911 to a Glock 19 gen 5.

Want me to post my reasonings?
Not really. Pat Rogers explained it pretty well and if there was ever a hard core 1911 fan, it was him.

Not really a “rifle for home defense” guy, except where you live on a farm like I do. A PCC with a can? Yep. A rifle, almost always too much of a good thing.

That said, if shotguns and handguns are off the table, a 300 HAMR or Blackout with a can would be hard to beat, imho.

Or a 5.56 pistol with a can.

The can makes rifles indoors doable. Otherwise, most people are not prepared for just how loud a rifle is when fired indoors.

At least that’s my experience.

MP5 or B&T APC9 or GHM 9 with a can and subs is ridiculous, even indoors. Such a pleasure to shoot.

5 Pages already... impressive:rolleyes:

Short, suppressed 5.56 or 300 blk with a decent expanding/fragmenting bullet bullet (no subsonic in 300 preferably, if those heavy fuckers don't open up they overpenetrate like crazy).
Done.

I can tell you from experience an M16A2 fired in doors will knock the dust/insulation off the ceiling.

Yeah, my experience is the same. And a 12 gauge? Seen people throw them down first time in an enclosed space, even with hearing protection. They thought they’d blown them up.

Hence the need for practice before employing a new weapon or a weapon in a new way.

Probably 20K dudes running around that can attest to that.

And an M4A1 indoors is survivable to the shooter...everything just sounds like you have cotton in your ears for three days afterwards 😄.

Yeah but the constant remodeling would lead to a divorce right quick.

And firing one in a car without hearing protection is a good way to end up unconscious... Despite Hollywood depictions!
