    As you guys have seen, I posted a Christmas gift thread, but there is no discussion allowed in that thread (the entire point is to assign a post number with a member that participates, nothing more). So, this will be the discussion for anything related to that Christmas gift thread! Post all you want over here, ask me questions about the gifts, etc.

    My question to you guys - do you like the gifts in the Christmas gift thread? I hope it's stuff that guys here would be interested in, but it's stuff that's more tailored to the members who hangout in the Vintage Section.

    I'll try to post a photo when I find one. This would be extremely easy for a gunsmith to do, then weld the rings to the base and make the channel cut in the front ring. No need to weld up and square off the corners of the mount, since the Corps did use 700SA scope bases on their transitional M40A1 welded scope mounts. These bases would be absolutely perfect for making a repro A1 welded mount with original Redfield parts. All people need are the windage screws (which can probably be found on ebay or elsewhere), and 1" diameter medium height 2 under screw scope rings.

    I wish that I had these parts, and I feel bad about giving away an these incomplete scope bases. However, finding the exact same Redfield 700SA scope base that the Marines used can be extremely difficult. Instead of having to track down one of these rare scope bases, these bases are rhe next best thing and they only need the lightening cuts under the windage screws, which is very easy to do.

    What do you guys think? Are these bases a decent gift, or should I have only put complete Redfield 700SA base/ring sets in the gift thread? Please let me know if this is acceptable or not very good.

    I'll look through my gun room when I have time, maybe I have a set or 2 of the correct Redfield 1" scope rings tucked away somewhere. If I do have any sets of the correct scope rings, I'll include them with the scope bases and I'll update the Christmas gift thread with the new information. Hopefully I can dig out at least one set of correct Redfield scope rings for these old Redfield 700SA scope bases. If I can't find any rings and windage screws, I might just purchase some off ebay to complete these sets. I don't want to half-ass anything, so completing these base/ring sets would be much better than having them missing parts. I hope that everyone will accept my apologies with this, and I'll do what I can to complete these scope base/ring sets.

    There's currently 74 people who are participating in the Christmas gift thread, so there's a roughly 45% chance of winning one of the 33 gifts! That's extremely impressive odds of winning a gift. As much as I'd like to see you guys have the best odds possible, I'd also like to see more people participate and have a chance to win a gift. If anyone wants to post a thread in the Bear Pit section with direct links to these 2 Christmas gift threads, please feel free to do so. I spend the vast majority of my time in this Vintage Section, so the gifts and the threads being located here reflect that. I'll leave it up to you guys if you want to post a thread or 2 elsewhere on this forum that lenks directly to these 2 Christmas gift threads.

    For every page of entries in the other Christmas gift thread, I'll donate $100 to the Marine Scout Sniper Heritage Foundation (MSSHF) and the donation will be from everyone here on this gorum who has participated in the Christmas gift thread. We're at 2 pages right now, so at minimum I'm going to donate $200 to the MSSHF when this giveaway ends tomorrow night. The more forum members that make a post in the Christmas gift thread, more pages will be added to the thread and my donation to the MSSHF will increase by $100 for each new page!

    I know that having the thread open for only a few days during the Christmas holiday isn't ideal and a lot of people probably won't even see these threads until after the holiday, but I just wanted to make this Christmas gift thread special and have it actually be open during Christmas. So, I'm sorry to everyone who sees these threads too late, and hopefully more people will see these gift threads as they're relaxing tomorrow.

    @USMCSGT0331, Don’t sweat those rings and screws. They’re common parts and readily found. I’ll pitch in two sets of windage screws and a set of Med. Under-screw rings. I have all I need and have bought parts lots and scopes with rings as extras. Once you sort out the gift recipients for those bases, if someone needs them, let me know where to send them. I know some guys don’t cruise the auctions for bargains like I do, so I’m happy to help our fellow SH clone nuts.

    I’ll post a picture once the site SNAFU is corrected.
