Lucked out and got one of these last week.

As I said, I’m very new to this. I’ve heard about all the different flavors, notes, finish etc. Don’t know nothing about all that. I got an education about finish this weekend. A friend of mine has been giving me samples. One was Jack Daniel’s 12 year. I took a sip, swirled it around and thought hey that’s pretty good. I swallowed it and wham this other flavor hit and I gotta say I didn’t like it 😂

I told my friend about it and he laughed and said it was the same for him.

I’m learning I guess 😎

My brother and his family are in town for Christmas. We had a tasting of some of Buffalo Trace’s better stuff tonight. I supplied the Blantons and Taylor. He supplied the Weller 12 (my Christmas gift from him) and the Stagg. The latter two are unobtanium here, and very difficult to come by even where he is in the Nashville area. All of them are great.

Been working on a bottle of Whistle Pig 6 year old.

Only 94 proof, but smooth.
My friends liquor store was well stocked but nothing new for barrel proof.

Passed on Garrett and 10 year old Mc Kenna, they had TX barrel proof but bored with it.

Went looking through my stuff for a DSP-1 Rittenhouse but kept finding post-fire DSP-354's which I didn't want to open. Decided on a plastic screw-top Old Grand-Dad BIB for the heck of it. Normally that is mixer class and prefer the 114 for sipping but this was surprisingly good. On my 4th pour. No idea if was just my taste buds or old bottle effect, but I'll enjoy it regardless.

Shout out to Marty! Mid pallet bump of rye spice. It’s a nice pick. Drinks easy and that spice sticks around decent. I also get a little leather. Not much vanilla or caramel. This one sits on the darker side of the spectrum. Maybe a little older???

Thanks so much.

How much difference are the store picks vs the normal stuff you can get?

I have a Specs BT pick that I haven't opened up yet. Also, Specs is also having their end of year blowout of all their store picks and should have a 107 and Full Proof pick in there too. Should be a insane haul. They get pallets of these at the main stores.

Looks like there are going to be pallets of Mitchers Toasted and Four Roses. Along with the normal BT stuff, Weller, Stagg, EH Taylor, Blantons ect.

Where is this?

Houston and Dallas Specs at their main locations. I know by opening, they will have 500-600 people in line. There are people in line as of this morning at the Houston location. We still don't know what the official date is and the official list of bottles. This is some degenerate level of bourbon hunting.

Just got an Old Grand-Dad 16 yr. Wish they left it barrel proof or 114 at least but it’s pretty tasty.

Went back and looked. Fill date was 1/8/16. So around 8.5 years

I've got the crud, so hot chocolate with some peppermint schnapps mixed in.

My step-dad said his grandfather kept a bottle of peppermint schnapps handy for medicinal purposes, and he always had a cold 🤣
