Hey, all.

I have a question about the interchangeability of chassis parts between an older (1997) AIAW and a newer AIAT. Specifically, if one is a fixed butt stock and the other is a folder, would the butt frames be able to be taken off and swapped between the two, presuming both have screwed/pinned and bonded frames, and not welded. And if so, any recommendations on who might be able to do this, as well as install the old AW rear butt spike assembly onto one of the chassis (which will entail welding the support tube into the butt frame and cutting up the rear skin sides as well).

Thanks!

Did you ever get any replies to your questions buddy? I have an AW that was gifted to me by a deceased uncle and honestly don't know what my options are for modernizing it. I love the rifle but would like to install a cheek riser if possible.

If you have an AW, I would say don't try to "modernize" it other than what the options are with original parts. These AWs are basically collectibles nowadays, and their value for many is in their original configurations with factory parts.

But it sounds like you have an AW 1.0 with a fixed stock and no adjustable cheek, and simply want to make it a 1.5 with fixed stock and adjustable cheek? With original thumbhole stocksides/skins I presume? Got any pics?

If so, you should be able to easily add a factory adjustable cheek piece (mostly available from the US distributors Mile High or EuroOptic, or if you cannot find it here, via the UK distributor Sporting Services). If you cannot find factory 1.5 stocksides - the original square butt hook stocksides are long discontinued but you may be able to find a set in the aftermarket or try to find someone with the new large butt hook multi-part stocksides (again check with Sporting Services; if they don't have the new multi-part AW stocksides in stock, they can order them for you from AI but you'll have to wait), you can also have 1.0 stocksides modified to be 1.5 (simply chopping the top of the fixed cheek off and drilling holes for the two side screws).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. I feel the same way as you and would like to keep the chassis original. What I am searching for is the adapter to utilize the original mounting system with my ARCA bipod. The issue is, I don’t know what the key hole mounting system on the chassis is called to find an adapter.

Pretty sure Sawtooth Rifles has what you need. I have one on one of my rifles and an HRD rail on another, but I don't think they make them for AW anymore.

The square section tube sizes on all the AW/AE/AT chassis have always been the same size, so yes, you can fit an AT hinge onto a AW chassis centre, but only if the AW/AE is a "pinned and glued" type.

It's a little bit more work than a straight swap.. The thread below shows one way you can go about doing it, but personally I'd leave it. The screw positions on the skins at the front are not compatible between AW/AE and AT, so you would need to find replacement skins too.

I have been looking at the sawtooth rail! I will probably end up getting one if I can't find an adapter for the current "Key Hole" rail that is on the rifle. I call it key hole because I don't know what it called lol. Thanks for the info

Are you referring to Accuracy International’s proprietary “key slot” system, as on all their current line of fore ends and such? If so, you have an AT then, not an AW. There are several options for ARCA rails that attach to the AT key slot bottom fore end. Such as below.

I'm not sure why my pictures are not posting. The rail is located on the bottom of the fore grip. It has one round slot measuring 3/4" and a long slot that is 1/2" wide.

This is likely the one you need. It clamps in the slot. The one above is for the keyslot system which an AT has that utilizes I believe 5 keyslot screws to hold it on

This one fills the slot then clamps the forend between

Your slot in the bottom of the forend should be shaped like the smaller piece in the pic below correct?
