Tikka actions

I want 300wsm , want a better than average but don’t need PRS hunting rifle, 7.5-8.5 lbs.
I have a custom 6.5 PRC already. TL3 action, Mullerworks carbon barrel, AG Composite carbon fiber stock.its about 12lbs with glass. It’s a tack driver and fun to shoot, but it going to lighten next rifle.
Thinking of going with tikka action, Mullerworks, rock creek, or bartlain barrel, not sure if I want carbon or fluted m24 barrel. I have a model 70 300wsm but not thrilled with there “90s” actions when there were in financial troubles.
Still want to have fun with it off the bench and reloads, but a serious hunting rifle too.

Easy button right there. I have a WSM I built off a tikka with the long action bolt stop. Carbon six sendero 22” barrel and a Mesa precision stock with a Burris XTR3 3.3-18. It’s right around 12 pounds with a double pull ckye pod on it

Barrel speed of my 20" Stainless 308 CTR's and a 20" blued T3 Lite 308 were the same as a 20" blued Lothar Walther 308 barrel 1/12 we also have. Our 1/13 Bartlein Palma possibly tight bore also 20" was slightly faster. Also our 1/13 Lilja 20" Palma seemed a bit faster.

Well... There is a reason why sniper rifles, precision rifles, competition rifles, and LR hunting rifles have always had heavy profile "bull" barrels... Just saying... There has to be some sort of method behind the madness.

Plus, the added weight, also helps plant your rifle by keeping it steady from being susceptible to small movements while your trying to stay on target at longer ranges where everything is much smaller through the scope, and the slightest movement at the wrong time can mean the difference between eating dinner, or going hungry.

You mean to tell me that it is easier to shoot heavy rifles well than light weight ones?

Oh for sure; there's no comparison between a heavy bull like an M40 profile and my really light 'bull' barrels like my SSG69. The SSG still shoots for quite a while but not like my heavier barrels do. I just thought the difference between the german light weight barrels and some US pencil barrels was fascinating. Totally different behaviors.

I was going to say the exact same thing. Just buy this and you'll have a lot of your requirements filled I believe.

Do this. Buy a rifle for 650 on eurooptic, new, sell everything on it for a couple hundred (new/unfired will bring more) and start your build on a new $450 action that comes with a trigger.

Edit: I guessed on price, but I was right on

Stainless $700

How to take the barrel out. Won’t that break your shoulder and wrist

My custom tikka is a laser and functions flawlessly but if I could do it all over again I'd build off an Origin probably.

Tikka is an excellent off the shelf choice if you just want to shoot and aren't a tinkerer. Put a good scope on it and hit the range. It will shoot well.

There's also no better off the shelf hunting rifle for the money IMO.

All that being said I'm building off a 700 pattern for my next rifle or two. I have an xm3 retro mod build in progress now.

Tikkas doesn't sell bare actions but you can always get a standard option and have bolt face opened and chamber recut. Or just get a prefit barrel and sell the factory one here.
Worth noting here that Unknown Munitions has a Tikka clone in the works. Bolt will be for sale and drop-in for existing actions. No idea what bolt faces will be available (fingers crossed for ARC). They claim Q3 2025, so maybe expect early 26?
