Decided to inventory the gun safes and document all of my guns and scopes. Put a replacement value on it and the number surprised me. I guess when you get tired of one and don’t move them on you accumulate more than you would think.

Our homeowners insurance will only let us put a rider up to $10000 without and inventory including serial numbers.

What are others doing for your collections. I am avoiding talking value but let’s guess just bumping against 6 figures for all the pistols, rifles, AR’s, shotguns, muzzleloaders and scopes. It’s a working collection, not a collectors collection.

My homeowners is really reasonable. No inventory required unless you're making a claim. Then they want an inventory simply to establish value.

Mine has $10k no questions asked on guns to start with... It covers a handful of the cheap ones 🤣

I know a few people who will inherit a crappy worthless house, and 6 figures in guns.

just make sure you're clear on what you will actually be paid in the event of a loss, and what hoops you would have to jump through. i had a brand new unfired just bought rifle stolen decades ago and the insurance company wanted to give me just a fraction of the cost. i fought and eventually got full value but i had to fight.

www.gunandtrophy.com has a standard valuation. I believe their FMV is 95% of NRA Excellent condition.
I’ve emailed them to ask but I’ll ask here also…
Do they cover scopes, thermals, night vision and custom accessories on guns like the stock, trigger, barrels, etc? Most of mine are custom builds so not sure how I’d get an NRA valuation.

Does Gun & Trophy require itemized inventory?

I, personally, will do an "itemized" inventory but *not* for insurance purposes. I never want them to see it. I want it for myself, as a personal record, in the event I ever get 🚩 flagged, and they attempt to confiscate all the ownership papers/documentation along with the firearms/ammo. I will save all of this electronically (photos, serial # photos, etc,.) of all my inventory and ownership docs. I still may never get my confiscated inventory back (i.e. when cleared eventually of the ERPO), but there will be a record of what I owned so I can sue the agency that did the confiscation and refuses to return them.

Yes, optics and accessories are also covered. I specifically asked them about binoculars and spotting scopes when I got my policy.

From their website -

Yes, we cover class 3’s and even give some coverage for Tax Stamps under our additional coverages.

We define “Accessories” as stock and grips, bayonets, flashlights that attach to a covered firearm, barrel-mounted suppressors, sights, scopes, spotting scopes, magnified or non-magnified optics, red dot or reflex sights, holographic sights, lasers, other optics designed for aiming or sighting of firearms, slings, holsters, cases, or boxes designed for the carrying or transport of firearms, bipods and tripods designed for the use with covered firearms, magazines, clips, links, or other devices designed for the feeding of ammunition into a covered firearm, shotgun chokes, sub-gauge tube sets, knives, reloading equipment and binoculars.

I would expect them not to cover red flag laws ,seizure's et al .

Well, "officially," since 🚩 laws have nothing to do with any HD/SD scenarios (i.e. their primary mission), I get why they don't/won't cover them. The problem with that is twofold. First, many of their competitors *do* cover them (CCW Safe, USCCA, etc.), although to what extent I don't know. Second, AFAIC,
🚩
laws are of greater concern to me than involvement in an HD/SD scenario. I believe that I have a greater statistical chance of being served an ERPO (over which I have no control), than being in an HD/SD scenario (over which I have a good bit of "preventive" control - I can do my best via SA to stay out of/avoid those scenarios).

To me, the greatest threat to my 2A rights is not a prosecutor filing a charge against my DGU. It's not being not able to "OC." It's not having to pay for a CWFL as opposed to "permitless carry" (I'll always get my CWFL for its intrinsic benefits). It's someone maliciously & falsely labeling me a "threat to myself or others" in order to generate an ERPO and get my inventory confiscated without any ability to defend against that action before it happens. Because, once it does happen, it will be a Herculean effort to get them back, if that's even possible. In many jurisdictions, I don't think it is.

I've had separate firearms insurance for years. Never had to use it. Most companies only require details on individual firearms worth over 10k dollars. Typically a 500 to 1000 dollar deductible and they cover scopes and accessories.

Well worth whatever you spend in my opinion. The NRA version sucks far more than anything else. It is as close to a complete waste of money as possible.
