That eventuality may be inevitable at this point. But I was thinking more of home/area defense applications with auto targeting. Sentry turrets are easy enough for me to build in my machine shop, and rotary encoders/stepper motors are industrial lego at this point. The hard part has always been the operating/targeting system.
This article is about a guy who used chat gpt (kinda stupid), but private AI are a thing now. My BIL built a decently powerful one and has it running on one of my backup servers. Had a productive conversation with him yesterday about implementing this type of turret control function. Came up with a decent plan to train it for friend/foe and target acquisition (NV, IR, thermal, etc).
While building an armed auto turret may be against the law, building a turret mounted camera with auto tracking/shooting isn't. Then, if the law were to stop being applicable (SHTF scenario), arming it would be a 10min project. Just sayin....
