Out West
I saw this on TV this morning at a news conference.
LASO Sheriff Luna and LAPD Chief McDonnell are both carrying 1911's.
Stainless, beavertails, ambi safeties , exteneded mag wells, fixed sights.

I interviewed (didn’t take the gig) with a CA agency north of Tahoe years ago and they could carry whatever they wanted… A female deputy giving me a tour was rocking a kitted out G34 with extended mags like an old USPSA Limited rig, and a detective I met had an STI 2011 on his hip (this was like ~10 years ago though).

"BBQ guns"
Maybe there’s a picatinny burger flipper attachment?

Here’s a pic rail chain saw (discontinued 😢):

I think they are Springfield Armory Professional 1911’s that were selected for SWAT.
Seems that the ‘Top Brass’ appropriated a few for themselves!

If i was the top dog, i’d wear some cool shit too. I have zero issue with that. Like Patton
Even if I was a street cop I’d be rocking a XC or something similar. If your gonna be in a shootout might as well do it in style and if you get shot I damn sure don’t want to be holding a $500 pice of plastic.

Seems that in a firefight, it would be extremely beneficial for everyone to have the same gun, be qualified on the same gun, and all have the same magazines…….

I remember my second firearms class. I was doing a team-drill. My assigned partner had a super-duper custom 1911 that went down. I was supposedly shot in the leg, so I stopped shooting to apply a tourniquet. While doing this, the instructor yelled at me to give my gun to my partner, which I did.

After I applying the tourniquet, the instructor yelled “now pick that gun up and get it running”. Dumbfounded, I looked at that gun in the dirt knowing that I knew absolutely nothing about the 1911, much less how to get one running that the owner couldn’t get running. Everyone in the class was thinking the same thing. So I pulled out my ankle back-up piece and started firing, a round of applause from the class.

That was when I decided I needed to not only own a 1911 but that I should become with proficient with as many different firearms as I could.

Your average LA police officer is not doing this.

In a fire fight, I want the gun I shoot the best, and right now that's my XC.
Ha! Have you trained with cops? Have you ever shot at a qual? Most cops can’t hit the broad side of a barn! They are notorious for mag dumps and expending all their ammo, as a result of contagious fire.

During the Boston Marathon manhunt, they finally cornered the 19 year-old unarmed suspect hiding in a boat in a neighborhood driveway. One of the officers somehow managed to fire off his weapon. This caused a large scale contagious, fire event (on video).

All rounds were fired from the police officers. From a distance of 30+ yards they fired over 200 rounds into that boat. A lot of them missed the boat. And they completely missed the 19 year old.

And the the fucking cops/city did not pay for it. A go fund me by the public got him a boat or he would have been fucked.

Yes I have, and yes I have, and by and large you are correct. The guys I roll with are the exception to that rule. They were gun guys before they were cops.

Springfield Long Beach Operator model pistols more than likely. My LAPD buddy has one for the unit he is in. It was the "required" pistol. They changed to Stacatto a while ago but after some issues they had, the team uses Glocks, the regular 1911 or whatever they are approved to carry.

The FBI selection and particularly the HRT continue to set the standards for Top Agencies and PD’s for weapons.
The FBI uses Glock 17 for Field agents and the Springfield Professional for the HRT.
The Springfield Professional is no longer offered by Springfield to the public and the TRP is the closet you will come.
Professional is more accurate, better trigger and the 45ACP a better stopping round then the 9mm.
All of which makes sense for an elite squad.
If I knew I was going to a gun fight, I would carry either my Springfield ‘Vickers’ in 45ACP or my SIG 1911 in 357SIG. My Glock’s in 357 SIG are consigned to vehicle carry.
There is a litany of information of how the FBI went from 9mm, to 10mm, to 40S&W and eventually back to 9mm. Most of the Police agencies have followed the FBI back to 9mm because of the supposedly better bullet construction of 9mm than in the past.
But anecdotaly, I see a lot of individuals hit with mulitple rounds of 9mm and not go done intially. Most Departments have benn seen to go to Mag Dumps with 9mm when engaging.
The 45ACP and the 357SIG are usually close to one-stop shopping.

My cop friends have seen multiple shitbags take a high dosage of 45 ACP and still function. Shot placement, bullet design and velocity are what matters. Most modern pistol rounds are about equal in reality. Pistol rounds are not good fight stoppers typically. Plenty of ballistic tests out there to look at. In the end the holes are all within a few hundreds of an inch to each other, and some go faster and some go slower.

In support of your point.

Let's see some evidence of your shooting ability

Interestingly enough if I knew I was going to a gun fight I'd take a semi auto rifle.

I find it interesting that they authorize Wilson Combat, Kimber, and Sig 1911's, but not Les Baer, Nighthawk, or Ed Brown.

I'm sure it's a matter of personal taste, but I have owned or shot all of these except Nighthawk, and Les Baer is my favorite. Actually had a dude try to trade me a Wilson for my Les Baer because he liked it better also. I passed, even though his was about $500 bore than mine when new. I bought mine used from Collector's in Houston.
