How much snow have ya'll gotten this month? We are just over 2.5 feet. Its more than we have had in the previous 10 years combined.

This little woodpecker has been living on my porch for the last week.

Damn, 2.5 feet what part of WV are you located?
I'm just outside Columbus OH, about 8" total so far this year, most of it in one time.

We got 30-40” in one big dump last week, another 6” two nights ago, 8-10” tonight. Periods of high winds won’t even let me speculate on a total so far. I’m already sick of it. Can’t keep the driveway clean and have to do an arctic expedition to get from the garage to the house. I live at about 3600’ in West Virginia. Skiers in the valley are loving it though.

Have friends that moved to WY 2 years ago, send me beautiful pics. Know people that have lived there forever and they tell stories of the winter weather but in a joking way. They love it there, say the winter weather it's just something you deal with it.

We're sitting about average. Got 30" of heavy snow last weekend and actually had to put chains on the 4 wheeler to push snow.

It'll be half melted in a week when it warms up again.

I grew up in Maine. Spent most of my youth working outside. This is nothing compared to the Maine winters of my youth.

One job I worked on coast we had -80 wind chill. Brutal

I used to head into the hills, ice climb and camp -20° for 3 days at a time, solo. I didn’t stop moving much.

I lost track, but the last storm dumped 65" last week in Camden Ny.

Still made to the store to get a beer.....

And Ammo...

That lake effect be WILD up there. There are videos from boaters on the Lakes during all times of the year showing convection fueled monster roll clouds rising off the water, hovering just a few hundred feet over the boaters, then heading eastward with the wind. Those lake effect storms often put on a hell of an electrical display regardless of temps and season as well.

Called a guy in Lake Charles on Friday for work, he said a bunch of people were out of the office preparing for the snow. Not sure how much they got but they were calling for 6” or so.
I am gonna text my boss and tell them I need the day off to clear snow. It's zero degrees and we got an inch of fluff I might be able to sneeze off the driveway. 🤣🤣🤣

Yeah I’m up in PA, barring some ridiculous blizzard conditions with feet of snow my work has a “you can stay home if you want but you have to use vacation time” policy.

Central Il got 9+ inches in a 24 hour period. Wasn't happy. Neighbor let me borrow his snow blower so I could get my FIL to his doctors. At least they keep the roads relatively clear here. The bitter cold 🥶 and I am a Kali native.

Nice. We haven't seen snow here at all. Worry setting in, reservoirs low. Now, in my dottering years, I go with the following,

0 - 1.5" Push broom
1.5 -3.5" Push shovel
3.5"+ Snow blower

Thank you,
MrSmith

We had a really dry and warm fall for SW MT. I would say it is about "normal" now, whatever that means. The older I get, the less tolerance I have for winter. I used to own a t-shirt that said "summer sucks" back when I was an avid snowmobiler, now I am really wanting to head south to some warmer weather.

Sometimes I do wish for a winter similar to what I experienced when I came here from Central MT back in 96-97. In Central MT we would get some extreme cold, but we also got some warm chinook winds frequently to warm it up. Not so much in the southwest part of the state. 96-97 it snowed about 2-3' here in late October and it hung around til about mid May. Man the snow really piled up that year. It was absolutely bone chilling cold December-February, with the highs in the -10s. If we got a winter like that I think many of the people that have flocked here from CA and the Pacific Northwest would be thinking twice about their choice.

According to the news, we’re all going to die from it. 🤷‍♂️😆
Yeah, a couple inches of that stuff panics everyone around here ( central Ohio)these days. Not sure why, I remember a time when it wasn't a big deal just an annoyance. Week ago woke up to 7": of the stuff, annoying in that needed to shovel sidewalk. so postman doesn't slip, fall, and sue us. People getting soft. Was a teenager when the blizzard of 77/78 hit here. Major Pia but everyone dealt with it.
I do realize most southern states don't have the equipment/snowplows so it definitely gonna shut things down but for what ? A day or two and then the stuff melts.

Screenshot from weather app. Roads closed. They have none of the infrastructure to deal with snow.

2" at my parents house. Star next to Spring. If they needed to drive they are fine. Parents are from Utah.
