Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said Sunday on NBC’s “Meet the Press” that California disaster relief would have strings attached.
Host Kristen Welker said, “Let’s talk about disaster relief for California. I want to tell you something that California Governor Gavin Newsom wrote recently. He said, ‘There must be no conditions, no strings attached to disaster aid.’ And yet we know that there’s a big conversation happening right now on Capitol Hill about linking disaster aid for California to an increase in the debt limit which has been a traditionally really thorny issue. Are you and can you commit that California disaster relief won’t have strings attached?”
Johnson said, “No, I won’t commit that because we have a serious problem in California. Listen, there are natural disasters. I’m from Louisiana. We are prone to that. We understand how these things work and then there is also human error. When they make policies that make disaster worse, we have to factor that in. In California, over the last couple of years, they cut $100 million from forestry management and cut $18 million from L.A.’s Fire Department, putting them into the other crazy priorities and 117 million gallon reservoir that was left empty for a year outside Pacific Palisades. Those are decisions they made based on whatever their ideas were, but it made it worse, and everyone knew it would, and the risk was there.”
Welker said, “So it could be linked to the debt limit.”
Johnson said, “Potentially, that’s one of the things we’re talking about.”

DAMN RIGHT IT SHOULD HAVE STRINGS ATTACHED AND SHOULD ONLY BE SPENT WITH APPROVED SUPPLIERS!

I read that they canceled fire insurance a few months back??
I read that, too. How was that allowed? Or was that also part of dumb decisions made by those elected by the those who got burned? More of the design that I have also read about to rebuild a better place for the Olympics?

Don't get me wrong, loss of everything you own is devastating. However, as we have all heard many times, elections do have consequences.

Absolutely. Unless there is mass voter fraud in California, they are getting an exactly what they voted for and put up with for years.

And do you know why?

1. Idiotic risk - LA was built in a desert and they have to import 80% of their water. Desert vegetation, no longer cleared with fire brakes by Newsom and his asshat Dimwits so they can spend more on illegal aliens and DEI. The entire valley is a fire hazard.

2. Then you have places like Malibu. Ever been there? Celebs mansions built on mud cliffs overlooking the ocean...which does storm occasionally and it even rains there occasionally. Know what happens? Yeah, they fall into the ocean and then expect insurance to pay for it so they can rebuild in the same stupid spot.

3. Newsom and the Dimwit fuckwads have restricted the rates that insurance companies can charge. So, rates no longer equal risk so the insurance companies said "fuck you" and properly so.

Its not hard to understand and this is exactly what these assholes voted for.

Over and out.

Same thinking as New Orleans, a city built below sea level and people are shocked when it floods. However , no one leaves and go to higher/safer ground yet expect everyone else (government/taxpayer) to pay for the destruction and rebuilding from disasters.

I agree.

Not questioning the insurance companies reasons. Understand it. The timing does seem odd. I read the WTC insurance policy in was cancelled a bit before 911 also.
Actually, the asshole claimed twice on WTC. He claimed that the attack was two events, so the policy should pay twice. He won $4.5B.

The cancellation of the policies coincided with the law taking effect. No foreknowledge.

The Feds should investigate the disaster and if it really was "natural", provide assistance like it would to any other state. However, if the Feds discover that the State and Local Governments of California contributed to it or even created it by being a bunch of eco-retards and corrupt bastards then Donald Trump needs to go on national TV and explain to the rest of America that we don't bail out morons who lit their own house on fire and then demand money to fix it.

Also, absolutely no money to bail out the FAIR plan. California politicians created this disaster, the California taxpayer needs to pay the price for allowing idiots to run the show.

Not only the neglect of dealing with the dead underbrush but the loonies/mental patients they put on the streets that are starting the fires makes them liable.
