Wierd... This morning the radio news is reporting this was a bust by the Cochise County Sheriff's department outside of Phoenix. For those of you who don't live in AZ you wouldn't even raise an eyebrow. Cochise is down along the border south of where I am. I sit about 150 miles south of Phoenix. Why wouldn't it have been Maricopa Sheriff's department which would have been Phoenix? OK, so it was a little south of Phoenix, then it should have been Pinal County. OK maybe it was even a little more south, you would have been in Pima County. Something doesn't add up with Cochise being involved. So you're going to leave your jurisdiction by about 170 miles to make a bust? There are too many doughnut shops between here and there to make excuses.

The vehicle containing the 7.62x39 ammunition was interdicted by the Pinal County Sheriff’s office. Still, the second vehicle containing the .50 caliber ammunition was located by CNTA investigators at Motel 6 in Benson," officials with CCSO wrote.
"One thing for sure is that U.S. ammunition is a massively sought commodity in Mexico. It is priceless," said Bernard Zapor, a returned ATF Special Agent In Charge who is currently a faculty member of Arizona State University.
Zapor said the busts have the hallmarks of the cartels.
"There's a couple of things that are very interesting about this: the way that it was being transported, it wasn't concealed from the photographs of the arrests. It was very blatantly just stored in an SUV, which indicates to me that they probably had the crossing into Mexico completely arranged," Zapor said.

It is illegal to take ammo into Mexico, their laws. It is illegal to export ammo without proper licenses, our laws as well. Chances are good you will go to jail trying to haul 1600 pounds of ammo in the back seat of a stolen car into Mexico.
