I’m looking to get my first pair of Bino NVG, and I’m having second thoughts about L3 tubes if I’m planning on using them in conjunction with an AN/PAS 29A. Is tube burn not really a concern with either of the tubes if I run the COTI at medium settings, or would the Elbit tubes just be a safer bet?

Thanks!

It’s a pretty minimal risk with either. Every tube is unique. I’ve had tubes that got temporary burn in (maybe wrong term) from COTI use on “full thermal” mode and I’ve had tubes that didn’t. If you use the COTI in patrol mode (most popular anyway) rather than full thermal, you shouldn’t have any problem.

Thanks! Yeah, it would be rare if ever that I used it in any other mode.

The only time I’ve seen any burn in from a COTI-style device was from running the compass display for over an hour…or spending way too long in the E-COTI menu screen trying to unintuitively tweak things.

In both cases the burn in faded that night - there’s nothing to realistically worry about.
