i was wondering if/when this would make it out

now we just need to know street prices on the units , which will probably keep me out of the game

Here's a 2022 article on it. They mentioned it to be around $2,000 msrp.

yeah i remember that article and some of the talk about it back then. i believe it was around the same time or shortly after vortex had brought out their squad weapon fire control. but atleast the magpul/maz looked like it would be available commercially

it will be interesting to see the 2025 inflation adjusted prices on the units

Sounds like their 15K LRF will be restricted, which is big gay. What's up with all these affordable WMLRFs dropping all the sudden? I like it. The 2K LRF seems to retain the full capabilities and hopefully it comes in cheaper than ES Raptar S and MRF-Xe's

It's super cool. I love advancement in technology.
But I also prefer manual transmission vehicles and hand wound watches. Not because they are better, but I enjoy the symphony between man and machine. I just have no desire for this level of automation. You will beat me, you will shoot better than me, but I will be enjoying my efforts.

I'm starting to think this isn't a real product. There has been 10x more coverage of the protech knock-off from magpul than this (which is zero).

When I called magpul this week I very much got the impression this was yet again aspirtational to see this year

I’ve seen zero videos or coverage on it. I know @Lowlight is going to stop by there and give a low down on it. I’ll wait until he posts something before I’ll call it vaporware.
the only single video I have seen is their own ads. nothing from shot.

for something this innovative i expected to see it front and center on a few places - but they also teased it last year.

I've seen a lot of YT at the Magpul booth, but this has not turned up at all.

They still have Q1 2025 up on their website as of now, maybe it'll disappear. They're hiring a few positions too, so they must have some cash flow too.

I really just want the LRFs, don't give much of a shit about the FCS.

same. I only want to run AB and I was hoping this would be the LRF i could get into an all-in-one with but I don't think this is entering the market this year or we would have seen a lot of media around it

Wow. Fucking huge if true. SWIR ranger with all the AB goodies and for under $6K?

The 2K model isn't a slouch either. Good price for onboard AB and it's not goofy like the Vortex which cannot hunt at night.

Wonder if that makes the miserable fucks at Wilcox or Insight be willing to sell their shit for lower prices and to civs, they definitely have economies of scale.

hmmm, how do they skirt around the FDA for the 15k model? Is that not full power?
IANAL but reading the FDA laser classification and regulation (21 CFR Part 1040.10: https://www.accessdata.fda.gov/scripts/cdrh/cfdocs/cfcfr/cfrsearch.cfm?FR=1040.10) and having our favorite AI overlord, ChatGPT also opine, there is nothing in there about sales prohibition.

Part 1040.10, to me, is all about proper labeling and warnings on these products. However, it is a hazard-based assessment not just around power levels but the actual hazards to humans. The whole IR range (700nm-1mm) can technically harm you, but the NIR stuff is particularly damaging, not that SWIR is not. There is a bit of this in 21 CFR 1040.10(e).

A lot of the reg is deferential to the ISO standard IEC 60825-1 on wavelength, power, and hazard classification. There is nothing I can find that says "these louts cannot own them", it's more going after manufacturers who don't put the safety labels that tell you not to point it at yourself/anyone else along with power and wavelength. Some of the mil units also have the disclaimer against the FDA reg, pretty sure my LA-5/B has some legalese on it.

I think the "FDA says no" is a bit of misinformation-or at least, misdirection-that gets said online along with ITAR restrictions. Feels like a copout and likely more to do with liability issues for the vendors. It's not like CBP was seizing all of the Homogear and other knockoff "airsoft LAMs" nor Perst devices for the FDA, the units that were seized were mostly sanctions related.

Having said all that, the big vendors of MFALs can literally gargle my hairy sack lmao. I don't like the idea that the King's Men are somehow qualified to use it but we are not. Hell, I was a dumbass 17 year old when I enlisted, no way that BCT+AIT made me in anyway aware about dangers of lasers.

The salesperson said the 15K was available though, so unless something happens between now and March 2025, I really hope this is a turning point for the industry along with the Horosun IRIS series.

Great info! I wish I understood why companies don't do what you said and slap a label on them for warning and call it a day. There must be some kind of industry precedent that makes them uncomfortable with doing that.
