M40 sling swivel build, a ask for help

Happy new year Gents. Striking out on finding correct sling swivels I decided to make mine. I bought a few 513 rears but with 1 inch loops. Having just restored my Di-acro #2 bender, I figured it was a good first project with it. I estimated what I thought would be a good starting point and made a couple loops. Would someone with originals check my measurements so I can adjust?

For the front, I will machine a one piece post but also need some dimensions on the threaded stud.

These are the measurements off the original drawings.

Both are measured on the inside of the loop. So not on the outside but the actual inside measurements. It is 1.50 wide and .380 tall on the inside.

The shaft as Kft101 said is 7/32-40 and I show .557 tall. I would measure mine before I cut one down though.

Your dimensions are slightly too big, but pretty close. Here’s my Remington M40 “Chuck Mawhinney” commemorative stock, which should be correct, to my knowledge:

Hope that helps. If you have an extra loop you can spare for a few dollars, please send me a PM, as I was given an ad hoc, custom-made front swivel for my project stock, but it lacks the loop:

cplnorton, thank you. I will tighten up and rebend one tonight. You are the second one to mention original drawings, Are they online somewhere or can they be purchased?

If you are talking about a mention on the Facebook m40 group it was probably me who said it. I found them buried at the Archives and at some point they will likely be released, but it might be a little while yet.

Just to make sure, I pulled out an original USMC M40 wood stock that was on serial 221442.

I measured both swivels and noticed there are slight variances in the bend. Maybe that is why the original Remington drawing only shows the measurement from the inside of the loop? They were probably just focused on a "rough" number on the inside of the swivel to make sure a sling would go through it, but it looks like the originals aren't exact.

But here are the measurements.

Rear swivel

Measured from the outside.
1.809 wide
.6810 tall

Inside the loop diameter
1.491 wide
.370 tall

Front swivel

Outside swivel measurements

1.7960 wide
.684 tall

Inside dimension

1.477 wide
.3745 tall

McMillian is now the dealer of them. I know I talked to them a while back and they said they were using all the ones made for a while for the new smears coming out. But once they catch up on the smears, they would offer the Wichita's loose for sale.

This was a several months back, I don't know if there is any change or not on offering them. you would have to write McMillian.

Now there are very slight differences in the appearance of the Wichita's compared to the original wood stock M40 remington Swivels but not really a lot. Most would never notice.

Thanks very kindly to everyone helping. I bent a few more tonight but have not hit the target number. Will try again tomorrow night.
Roached nearly 2 feet of rod tonight. I took the average of everyones numbers. I would suspect in the 60's the blanks were cut on a rod parter and bent on a Di-acro style bender which I'm using both. Once I get to the numbers, even with stops, there will be variances. I am using .154 cold rolled rod

And before someone shakes their head at me for spending 20 hours to make a sling loop, It is a break from what I normally do and I'm having fun with my machines.

Nice job! I know how you feel. I have spent silly amounts of time and effort in the evenings restoring hobby-related items that most guys would overlook or baulk at restoring. If you can spare one of your perfected loops, please let me know. My M40 replica is likely being built this month by a local guy, and I think the front swivel loop is the last part I need, along with bluing its mounting base, thanks.
