Should I run a 6mm GB?

Do you want a killer deal on a 6mm prefit?

In April we got our latest contouring lathe on the floor and cutting chips.
So: All the barrels ordered yesterday before 3pm on the GB are already contoured between the two contouring machines.

It's pretty nice having the ability to keep 3 machines turning on prefits all at the same time.

Josh,

What was ever decided about muzzle diameters at a given contour length?

Ie. medium palma finished at 20", is it going to have a larger muzzle diameter than what it'd otherwise have at 26" finish?

Thanks

Yep, that was fixed a couple months back. I mentioned in the PVA Experience thread but the discussion moved on fairly quickly and I think it got buried.

I wrote a macro to account for the change in diameter as the barrels get shorter and we incorporated it back in February or early March.

Status Update on the GB:

As of COB Friday we have about 70-75% of the barrels shipped. The outstanding work is in one of two categories:
1) It's being cerakoted and all machine work has been completed.
2) It's a straggler caliber like 6mm UM and 6XC. For anyone curious as to the popularity of 6mm's these days: More 6 UM's were ordered (3) than 6 XC's (2). The 6 PRC had more orders than those two combined (6 of them).

If you're a die hard 6 XC fan I would suggest buying a ton of brass soon because if I'm noticing this then I am sure the brass companies are noticing it too and will be basing production decisions accordingly. The only people that I know still shooting 7mm WSM today squirreled away a few thousand pieces back in 2015... I suspect the XC is going that way too.

Mine showed up last week. I didn't expect them so quickly. Shot 20 rounds of factory Lapua through one today, sub moa, the ammo had a higher es and sd than I expected, oh well.

I'll see how it compares to my other rifles in a prone match in a couple of weeks. An AT-X isn't a Coopermatch, but I'm going to give it a go, 14.5 lbs and comfortable prone with a sling.

Sadly, I'll be at a funeral tomorrow instead of the prone match. I will say that a 5 shot group at 100 yards measuring .58" was very easy in practice. I have high expectations for these barrels.

Missed this looking forward to another one in the future if it can happen.
July 1 starts our annual "Freedom From The Crown" sale.
That will be the big sale event until Black Friday.

FFTC doesn't include all options because we strive to get the custom orders out in a timely fashion. We are also launching a line of threaded, drop in 9mm Glock barrels that are being made with precision rifle level blanks and DLC coated. This is a long term project that has included many tens of thousands of rounds of development and torture testing over the past (nearly) 2 years. I'll post on them separately pretty soon.

Please do another group buy. I need a 6gt prefit.
Thanks for bringing this up again:

Considering it though I'm not sure it's going to be a 6mm batch this year, I'm thinking about making it a different caliber each year and making this a staple program... maybe 22 or 6.5 this year?

Thoughts/input?

22 please... and if possible finished lengths longer than 26". 28" Comp contours balance better for me

Probably 26's max, the smaller diameter 29" blanks get to be pretty picky to make them. We're not currently making something that long smaller than 6mm. We have a big brake that you can use to help balance, that may solve what you're looking to do?

Got in on the 6mm buy last year. I'd be in for a 22 group buy this year. I'm assuming it would be 1:7 twist only and .219 bore?
Everything we make in 22 is 219 bore, however we did start making some 8tw in Q4 last year; I might have them sale ready for the GB.

I'd like to see another 6mm one. I'm just about to move on from 6.5 to the 6mm world and will probably be a BR-A. Are all the pre-fits for that 7tw or can I choose 7.5tw when I order?
I'm leaning towards doing something different from last year just to mix it up a little bit. If we do a 6mm it would be for 7 and 7.5 but I do put an upper limit on the total of each for inventory control so you'd have to jump on it.

2025 should be the year of the quarter bore. 25CM?
It's interesting but I don't think it's going to generate the response needed for a group buy. Shame really because the 25's are a lot of fun.
