Today SecDef Pete Hegseth referenced both forts with their proper names and word is that in throwing out the DEI Bullshit of the last few years... these and other bases are going back to their proper names.

Yes, I know... Braxton Bragg was a second rate general... That he was a Confederate... I don't give a shit.

But Bragg and Benning have been home to (even birthplace of) thousands of soldiers and their families for generations. It's not just a fort. It's a home and a town and a community. Changing the name to appease a bunch of commie shitbags was a travesty.

And, yeah, Hal Moore (namesake for the new Fort Benning) was a hell of a guy (met him once in the 1990's when his first book came out). But they can name something new after him... Not change the name of another institution!

Now, can we also take the USS Harvey Milk out and use it for target practice? Yes, that Fucking ship named after a dick-sucking San Francisco activist faggot whose only claim to fame was getting gunned down in front of DIane Feinstein and turning her into an anti-gun-crusading China-leaking dottering POS for decades). And nuke it... don't just sink it as a reef. Don't need a bunch of gay Coral growing near some island. Do it fast before becomes the Gayest Ship in the Navy... in perpetuity?

The wins keep on coming!

Regardless of what the civil war was about history shouldn't be erased and it should be remembered a group of people rose up against the government.

I hate name changing mother fuckers. If your name is this it's this forever.

History is often (in fact usually) unpleasant in some way or another. It shouldn't be erased. It should be preserved and studied and, yes, learned from. Perhaps so that unpleasantness can be avoided in the futue.

If all the history makes you feel good and happy, then it's probably not history. It's probably propaganda.

It's hilarious that all the same leftist Democrats today going "But who is going to pick the crops and fix our roofs and run our happy little ethnic restaurants after you deport the illegals" are saying exactly the same as those Democrats in 1850 saying "But who will pick our cotton after you free our slaves." La plus que ca change, la plus que c'est la meme chose!

So you are saying we should take the Harvey Milk out, bend it over, and give it the big one good and hard?

Probably the stupidest thing I have ever read was about a sports commentator who was going to call an University of Virginia football game but they replaced him at the last because his name was Robert Lee. They didn't want anyone with a name that goes back to the Civil War on the Confederate side to be even heard.

So, here is a pic of Robert Lee, the one commies thought would make everyone think of taking advantage of minorities.

He is of asian descent. One of his highlights is that he speaks fluent Mandarin

The USNS Harvey Milk might be one thing, but what about the USNS Earl Warren? One was a gay administrator for San Francisco, the other sent tens of thousands of Americans into internment camps and later demolished the Constitution as Chief Justice of SCOTUS. That one is an absolute slap to the face of all Americans.

Coming soon in the same class of ship, the USNS Ruth Bader Ginsburg...

Naming oil ships after greenie leftists is actually pretty funny....

Or if my best buddies is leaving for there on Saturday to be a command historian.

Staying here at the Schloss for a couple of days while his stuff gets moved. I told him this afternoon “Guess what… you are not going to Ft. Liberty after all… it was on the news. No transfers to Ft. Liberty.”

He looked sort of shocked until I said… it’s going back to being called Fort Bragg! His first words… “Braxton Bragg was a buffoon!” Classic historian response!

But he is mucho happy!

He said he would have called it “Fort Gavin.” Not a bad choice… so hopefully they use that name somewhere!!! General Gavin was a hell of a field commander!!!

But of course, none of the sentimentality expressed here applies to changing the name of the Gulf of Mexico. My entry for the troll of the week. ;)

Meh…. It’s not like Mexico is using it….

Call it the Gulf of the Americas… because that’s what it is. North and Central. Not quite South…. But we can let them have some crumbs.

And Fort Polk in Louisiana.
My Home away from home during the spring, summer and fall of 1970. Had a lot of good men helping us get ready for our future, fighting communists and guerrilla communist Americans when we finished with the Vietnamese communists. Then went to Benning, then to Ft. Huachuca, Then to the storied jungles of Southeast Asia.

Darned surprised that they didn’t rename Huachuca. Must have some kind of Indian or Mexican or Spanish meaning to it and sure don’t want those proper Bostonians, to get upset that we might possibly insult someone of Mexican or Spanish or Indian descent

Honestly thought those were the Columbians for the most part...

But point taken!

We need to bring back Hedgehogs and Depth Charges!

I agree, but it was too good an opportunity to post some pics of Narco-Subs.

Aww....I'm starting to miss my old job, now. I lost count on how many narco-pangas I've boarded and seized. If you've ever seen that video of that Coastie operator jumping on that self propelled semi-submersible(coast guard term for narco sub. SPSS) yelling "ALTO SU BARCO!" and banging on the hatch. Thats my buddy and we were stationed together. I was slated for that deployment but we swapped. We laugh about it and I often cry alone at night that that cool video that everyone loves could have been of me instead.

Whoever concocted the retarded naming white-washes for these pillars of military history and culture should be mandated to low-crawl around the perimeter of each post until skinless, then flogged with a PT belt soaked in expired accessory packet hot sauce repeatedly.
What a waste of perfectly good hot sauce. SMDH

Make sure they have to wear a retarded pink PT belt while they are doing it.

Nice, I can continue to call it Fort Bragg. I moved to NC 2 years ago and made sure as hell to not refer to it’s DEI name.
I never stopped calling it Fort Bragg.

But, if they want to change post names, they should change Fort Hood’s name to reflect reality & call it Fort Shithole. Fuck that place, if I ever became president I’d turn it into an above ground nuclear test center, without telling anyone.

Can we stop naming carriers after presidents while we are at it?
I liked the WW2 scheme of Famous Battles.
But you better have an Enterprise and and a Ranger.
Of course the idea of the USS Bill Clinton coming to fuck up your today.....

I'm fairly old (ok middle aged) but even as a civil war buff I never made the connections to Civil War generals until well into my 30s and 40s. Its still only a tentative connection.

Or change the name to Fort Embrace the Suck.

Similarly, you can't blame the Indians for changing the names of their cities back to what they were before the British made them a colony.
Sure you can.....

Every color of skin has been both the oppressor and the oppressed. I'm not saying it's right....but it happened. Where does it end?? Are we renaming streets in the middle east or Africa?? How far back is the cutoff?

How about we name military bases, ships, and the like, after people who served in the armed forces... Perhaps those who served with distinction/above and beyond?

I kinda feel people who received a medal of honor or other citation of merit deserve more recognition than Ruth Bader Ginsburg. At least where military bases/facilities/ships/vessels are concerned.
