.22 Ammo storage for matches

Just got mine. Very nice!! Works very well with Lapua & SK.

As mentioned before, I’ve looked at a few different options, grayops, MTM, ebay, and now Short Range Precision. I received my insert this week and so far, I’ve been pleased with my decision and glad I went with @zenbike good comms, lots of options, and willing to work with making your insert personal. This is my favorite color contrast

Bumping this old ass thread to see what people are using. Was looking at the gray ops holder which I really like but gotdamn it’s pricey when you factor in 2 for 200 rounds

Impact Data Books has added some products to their line recently that might work for some and be in their price range.

That’s what I need. I’d prefer 2 100 round holders than 1 200. I think it’ll be easier to find space in the pack. Thanks for the link
I’m with Badjuju. Those sliders or boxes where you have all of the inserts are cool - until one gets knocked over and you have an ammo yard sale. I open one factory box at a time, and keep the empty boxes in my pelican case to minimize movement.

Good point, I’m not worried about that personally but could see it being a problem. I’d rather have one box for all and not have to worry about dealing with the empty boxes at the range or wherever, but I’m also real bad about organization and putting stuff back so anything to streamline that helps lol

I have both https://hozandshield.com/shop/ols/products/100-round-clkstp-ammo-box and I have the 1040 Pelican Tray. I almost exclusively use the 1040 pelican tray, as I don't want 2 things in my pack, and I don't want loose ammo boxes in my pack either. A standard X match, usually is agoing to be 10 stages, ~100-120 rounds + 20-30 rounds for zeroing/fouling. Maybe a few extra for a reshoot if something happens. So 100 rounds isn't enough so then you're carrying two things.

You could also do https://hozandshield.com/shop/ols/products/200-rnd-ammo-box as well

Here's a design we've come up with, two different configurations, one holds just a single tray out of the box, Lapua, Norma, RWS size. The smaller box is used when ambient temp is 50°F and the larger box when temps fall lower, then a small Hot Hands fits in the slot. If you have a 3D printer I urge you to copy the design, maybe even improve on it, they are convenient and N48 magnets (1/2" x 1/8") do a good job of keeping the lid closed

I repackage all my SK and Eley ammo the CCI 100 count boxes and the work great and inexpensive. I also found the giant rubber bands at a Loves truck stop that are a perfect fit for holding the boxed closed.

In a moment of weakness, I bought the grey ops billet box. Between that and 3 Vudoo mags I’m good.

Yes it’s pricey as all hell, yes it was ridiculous to buy it, but I’d been on nights for 3 straight weeks and boredom plus a love of good machine work got to me.

I regret nothing!!!!

I have/use both on these...they are nice, lids are tight and the click stop is stiff so no chance of the lid opening accidentally.

This looks like a great option. I normally end up smashing boxes in pockets so they stay in a pouch on a bag.

Who the hell carries ammo in their pockets at matches?!? lol That baffles me. Should always be kept in the pack or bag or whatever you pull around at a match just like centerfire ammo. Whether kept in factory boxes or in some fancy carrier. Just for ammo protection.

Either camocorvette is a chic, or his girlfriend is rationing his ammo…

I had some of these printed

I ended up just getting that 150 round holder from eBay but I know it was a waste of money, I’ll look at the gray ops one for the next 3 months and just order it anyway 😂

Mine came out of Canada, check Matt Hueys u tube channel. One of his buddys 3d prints em...Eley or Lapua/Sk specific boxes. Got one of each...perfect fit, reliable, and dirt cheap.

I've been using one of the AGS Precision inserts for the Pelican 1020, but I have seen a few 200rd inserts for the Pelican 1040 at matches and kept it in the back of my mind for a while. @zenbike posted he had a couple of black inserts available and I immediately contacted him. A few days later, I've got a new storage solution that I'm very impressed with!

I'm pretty sure this was a mandatory project in my shop class back in the 80's minus the insert.

I could see using this for match ammo, but I could never use it for range ammo. I can barely figure out what of the 30 types of ammo I have for which various gun when it's clearly on the manufacturer's box. I can't imagine trying to keep it all strait when it's in these unmarked boxes :)

I have made a lot of different boxes over past couple of years including similar inserts for pelicase , but am mostly using these 100rd boxes. There is a magnet on both ends so when you finish one box you flip the cover around for second one magnets are quite strong so it slides shut with authority. Nice thing with these you basicaly flip it around and get 5 runds out at the time ,vs fidgeting with the pelicase box

While thing works like it should i have never come to a stage i would be comfortable selling them as i find magnets adhesion to 3d print unsatisactory. So will likely rework these in the near future to avoid the magnets

Do you sell? Looks like you're doing some neat stuff.

Looks great. Are your 3d models available for download anywhere?

Factory boxes. No extra work to repackage them, they break down and don’t take up extra space when empty or throw them away as you go, light weight, easy dispensing 10-15 at a time without having to pluck ammo one by one out of a carrier. Doodads are neat, I get it and make a ton of quality of life crap myself, but I do not understand giant, harder to use 22LR ammo boxes.

Have no clue how 200rd boxer are meant to be used , but these 100rd ones are not just pretty they are nice at dispensing 5 rd row at a time and having whole match worth of ammo in one box

But shiny little things no one really needs are basically 95% of firearms business. Shooters are absolute gear whores

Talking useless fancy boxes , here are some from printables(not my design) i made on Bambu with AMS , multicolor printing has come long way
